we all know the hero guns but i came a cross a pic of a model i have not seen before.
we know they are built around a Vektor pistol.
were there blank fireing guns in the movie.

this pic shows an ejection port on the right side where the port for the Vector would be instead of a silver disk like the left side.
were some of these used and they only showed the left side when filming.

TRUE but if there were blank firing models then the cases had to go somewhere.
like the new BSG clamshell guns that changes to clip fed.

did they have blank firing models on set and if so then this would be an accurate design to that version correct.

callit a firing stunt model.???

Not sure about what exactly was used on set (ask Munson :D) but the item in the picture is a solid resin fan-made gun by one of our stalwart members, DD...

Also, Dean's was made (IIRC) from a ref pic of only one side. But I'm really getting into his story -- it's his baby and his story to tell...

In book on the making there is a shot of Leeloo Pulling back the top section which was attached to the slide of the Vector, which when fired throws the brass up and over to the right, and it cleared the add-on stuff well.

Also if you look closely when Dallis fires it at full auto on the Cruse Ship you can see the action working.

THATS JUST WHAT I MEAN.
THE STATIC HERO HAD THE DISK ON BOTH SIDES ,,,,
but the firing Hero had no right side disk but an open port for the Vektor cases to eject.

Dean made this model. but it is a part of 5th history as being an accurate cast of this model....correct...i :eekthink

Sorry that is not what I said.

I mean that the prop had disks on both sides, that the vector like a PPK throws the brass more or less straight up and slightly to the right.

Also they fitted the add-on section was fashioned TO the Slide so that it moved back with the cycling slide, it was mounted behind the injection port so that when it cycled backwards there was nothing in the way.

ok, the Walther p38 also throws up and to the left. so we are saying that this is the casters guess at what the right side looked like.

Yes the model maker made a good guess as to if the add-on parts did not move there would have to be a opening for the Vector to throw out the rounds on a firing gun.

But what they really did was make the upper and back part of the housing/add-on parts two parts and the upper section was mounted to the slide and the rest of the housing was fashioned to the lower section of the gun.

So when fired the upper/rear section traveled back with the slide and thus opened a gap between the add-on housing that cleared the Vector's port and allowed the rounds to be thrown out.

It also allowed the read add-on section to work the slide action so it could be cleared or rack in a round.

Clever and simple.

thanks Dean for confirming it.

one of the new ones from the Munson Mafia is in my future for a screen accurate model .:rolleyes
i had thought of updating the one i have, but after finding out the story and maker, be assured now it will stay just as it is.:thumbsup

as with the old TOS Phasers that had big mistakes it is a part of prop history and has its own story to tell.:angel

thanks all that gave input.
