Kobold Flash/Droid Caller a bit like buses it turns out

I've been searching for a Kobold Flash/Droid Caller for a while, bid on a few on eBay, they don't seem to be listed that often & they always seem to shoot up over £100 & out of my price range (last one I bid on ended up going for about £155)

I'd pretty much given up getting an original & I was looking at getting a Resin one & even bid on a Leitz flash as it looked kind of like a Kobold.

Anyway last week I spotted a Kobold on eBay with a nice low start price, auction was ending on a Wednesday afternoon so I put a bid in, was ready to go higher but I got it for £34 which seemed ok to me.

Given the prices I've seen them go for it made me wonder why did I get it so cheap, have I bought the wrong one?? either that or because it was listed just under photography the Star Wars crowd just missed it?? maybe I'm just wrong about the prices & it wasn't cheap :lol

To my relatively untrained eye I think it's the Han Solo ANH model, but I'm prepared to stand corrected

looks like it's missing a bulb or something next to the bracket? & I didnt get the mounting arm so no thumbscrew for the bottom either, but for £34 these things don't really bother me

Got it the next day, came with its original box & some bits & pieces, it's lovely really clean almost like new,

If I'm right I dont really need to make any alterations to this type to be accurate (except the thumbscrew in the bottom) not sure if it should have a D-ring?

I also got the Leitz flash, put next to one another there isnt really anymore than a passing similarity but it might make a nice custom Droid Caller, & it was only £5, thought I'd include some pics of them side by side

update, ok this is a bit odd but seems that Kobolds are a bit like buses you wait ages for 1 & then 3 turn up at once :lol

I was just on eBay & I saw these 3 flashes listed for £35 Buy it now, they look a little beat up but I figured for that price I could take a chance,

will have to see what they're like when they come

not sure exactly which ones they are & I've not seen the one in the middle anywhere before,

just had an email from the seller to say I bought just in time as he was about to alter the listing after finding out there was a Star Wars Connection :lol

Kobolds turned up today & I'm pleased

they are a bit beat up but I knew that & I'm not bothered for the price

nice bunch of extra bits & bobs, couple of thumbscrews to attach to the bracket but not the right one for the Han ANH I think,

I think I've got the correct Kobolds for Luke's & Han's ANH Droid callers here?

not sure if I should leave as is or paint up (& weather) the silver one & add the dome & D-Ring,

I actually really like the funny little flash, I know it wasn't used in Star Wars but it looks like it should have been :lol

I'm very pleased with my little family of Droid Callers all for less than the price I thought I'd pay for one

Doopy doos are selling a resin version of the anh droid caller now, looks quite a nice piece but haven't got one yet

I too got that funny little Kobold Flash thinking it would have the same clamp for a Luke ESB/Vader ROTJ D-ring . . . alas the screws were not in the exact same position as can be seen above.

Indeed you have 2 Solo and 1 Luke ANH droidcallers now

My first Han version i got with Buy it now for 17€, that´s what? 12-13 £? And it was close to mint, even with the correct thumbscrew on the bracket. It was listed from a Camera shop, so you can guess what the real world value of this things is, no matter what prop-collectors are paying.

Then a long time nothing, all i´ve seen were running over 100, often over 150. :facepalm

But 2 days ago i found another one in great condition, it was auctioned for 49,50 £ Buy it now, or make a price suggestion. Believe it or not, someone really made 2 trys to get it even cheaper. One was rejected, the second was still pending. :lol

Well, yes - i decided to ease it up for him with going the Buy it now way immediatly. :love


Granted it was another Han only, but one day i will get a Luke, too. I still believe.

Luke's has the step and smooth edge around the base. Rare as shhit and with prices to match. Which is why my poor Luke has a Han!

I thought Luke had a Linhof, not a Kobold?
