Kitty Butler's 2012 Halloween Costume Contest Entry

Hello all. I'm still a relatively new member here. I've not had any experience really doing anything like some of the member's I've seen on here. I make my own costumes, not very well. But I still try every year because I find it fun.

I was trying to decide what I wanted to do this Halloween. Something simple because I didn't have much time. It was going to be Frank Miller's The Spirit at first. Then I went to a Halloween store and found a Riddler cane. I was beyond excited!!! So from there I decided to be The Riddler. And I opted for Batman: The Animated Series Riddler because I knew I wasn't going to find a full green suit to fit me (a 5 foot girl).

What I already owned:
I already have a black button up shirt and grey pants. And I had TDK Joker kids costume gloves to work.

What I needed:
Went to Kohl's and found a women's blazer. It was a green color that had more of an aqua look, just like in the cartoon. Bought:

  • A costume derby hat (Target)
  • Silver tie (Ebay)
  • Generic craft mask, silver ribbon, purple craft paint (Hobby Lobby)
  • "Forest Rain" green house paint (Home Depot)
  • Black dress shoes (Payless)
To get the derby to match the jacket, I took the jacket to Home Depot and I got a sample jar of Deep Base paint. I painted the question mark on the tie using a vector traced stencil of the action figure for this Riddler.

Oddly enough all that and the cane I bought was wrong for that variation of the Riddler lol. The only thing off about my costume were my shoes. I wasn't sure how it would go trying to paint shoes with house paint so I left them black.
