Ha Sluis Van Shipyards that was me ... and James as I watched it again in large format the emitter is still really spinning without the blade ... studio lights reflecting onto the emitter would not give that kind of weird on and off effect towards the camera ... so that said could this imply they just took the blade of the stunt version? Or did, as you suggested James, the hero saber indeed have a motor inside?

I'm sure the hero never had a motor inside. It might have been planned, but everything I know about the hero is it was static.

The entire emitter head spins on the stunt, so it's very possible they took the blade off and the head spinning was similar to an old-west gunfighter spinning his guns after shooting a foe in a bar. The windvane looks like the hero to me, but it could just as easily be the stunt. It's difficult to tell.

Actually, that looks like an artifact of the film. It's quick, but while the flange seems to be rotating, the rest of the emitter doesn't. But that's just based on viewing it on You Tube at work. I'll have to check the DVD at home.
