Kebec (Captain Canuck) cosplay - Help??

Hello, everyone!

I am planning on re-doing my cosplay of the character Kebec from the current run of the comic series Captain Canuck throughout the next year or so. Little background time: being a theatre major, I am decently trained in working with patterns and sewing, but NOT having an emphasis in costuming, I'm not stellar. I do have the ability to ask for help from the costume head at my university if I need it, so the difficulty of the costume isn't a huge issue. I have made two bodysuits before. Other info for this cosplay: I plan on making the helmet with fiberglass (using the base of the helmet I already have), and at this point in time, I have no plans to add her gun to the cosplay (too many differing rules on prop weapons at different cons; it's easier to not deal with it for now).

Now, I have a few questions (reference pictures here. And when I say "reference", I mean "literally every panel that this particular costume has been shown in with the exception of two where she is a blue-and-white smudge"). First of all, the bodysuit. Like I said, I have made a couple of my own, but I'm not really a fan of the way that they work for this character. She is a member of the military, so something like a Spider-Man suit (I did look at Gun Head Design and 4Neo and considered asking one of them to design a suit for me) don't really rub me the right way for her. I adore what this cosplayer did for his Captain Canuck suit. I was wondering if there was some kind of similar pattern or method that I could use for mine. Right now, I'm mainly looking at this pattern or the male version of it, obviously with alterations to either one to make them work for both my body and the character.

Second question is about the fabric choices. Like I said, I really don't want something like a Spider-Man suit. I'm kind of leaning towards something like Spandura for the white parts and something like this for the blue parts? I would probably end up using that and a similar stretch "leather" (just in white) for the gloves. I could probably use that and some leather/pleather in other colors or painted for the accessories (belt, wrist and ankle thingies, garter pouch...), unless that would look weird with the helmet.

Final question... What should I do about the shoes? I currently have a pair of white canvas flats that I added craft foam to in order to get the look of her shoes (it was a relatively last-minute thing). Would it work to try to find white boots and add leather or pleather for the gray bits, or is there some other solution that I'm somehow overlooking?

Thank you all so much. I know I have a lot of questions, but you know what they say about two (or several) heads being better than one. Any ideas would be appreciated so I can make this as awesome as possible. Have a great day!!
