Kane's Gun in Alien

So I'm watching Alien for the first time in forever, and I have a question...is Kane's gun on the ship just a stormy pistol with a Singlepoint mounted to the bottom? That's what it looked like.

Sort of. It is the same type pistol (Rexim-Favor) as Dr. Evazan used in the cantina sequence. A stormtrooper is shown holding one in the Visual Dictionary and also in production photos. A stormtrooper is never seen holding one in the movies --that I know of.

Roger Christian, (who worked on both movies) is credited with having put together the Nostromo Pistol for ALIEN. Due to the rarity of that particular weapon, it's entirely possible that the same Rexim used in STAR WARS found it's way into ALIEN as well. That's my theory anyway...
