Justice League: War

I purchased the movie through digital download as soon as it became available on midnight. Overall an average effort. I didn't read the comic so I can't make any comparisons there, but the story was too formulaic for my taste and characters were portrayed very two-dimensional. I think my main issue was that this felt very Been-There-Done-That. I know it's an origin reboot but having seen at least a couple versions of how the JLA got together in animation, they could've at least tried to spice things up. Much of the character development focus is on Cyborg and I didn't find it very engaging, just another formulaic father-son tension. GL and Flash had a few funny moments but nothing too memorable.

The movie was 80-90% action which is what we should expect from any JLA animated feature, and fortunately the action scenes didn't feel too repetitive unlike some of WB's earlier JLA efforts. My main gripe with the action scenes was that they didn't try at all to change up the surroundings, even Gotham and Metropolis both looked the same.

IMO Flashpoint Paradox and Doom were better films than this, but still worth adding to your home video collection if you're a JLA fan. I definitely don't regret buying it and will be watching this a few more times.

So.... how did they handle Wonder Woman in this flick? Did they bring up her being an illegitimate offspring of Zeus andhaving her mother along with all the Amazons wiped out?

They don't even discuss her origin in the film at all nor do they mention the Amazons getting wiped out (wasn't even aware that happened in the New 52). In fact the only origin they go over is Cyborg's, the rest they pretty much assume the audience already knows their background.

DC's animated movies used to be top notch but some of them have been getting as lackluster as their live action films. Are they now basing the movies off the new 52 universe?

Regretfully yes. Outside of Grant Morrison's Wonder Woman, DC doesn't seem interested in doing anything that's not New 52. This new 52 is just a toxic, unfocused and very unfriendly universe.

And yet they will also release a batman arkham animated based on the game. The new trailer for son of batman is also out btw.

I'd rather have a Batwoman movie.

Also, the only time I ever liked Damien was when he was dealing with Stephanie Brown pre-New 52. God, I miss Batgirl Steph.

My problem with the whole movie was that it was exactly like the new 52 comic book! Even the most of the dialogue was taken right out of the comic book, it's like they weren't even trying!

So you didn't like Justice League: Flashpoint, The Dark Knight Returns, and Batman Year One for the same reason?

First time I've seen someone complain that an adaptation was too similar to the source material.

I'm not saying I hated the movie, it was just so predictable because I've read all of those comics and there was no originality to it.

I went back to watch War again and right after watched Flashpoint, there's a noticeable difference in the production value between the two, the animation and details in Flashpoint are better. Not sure why WB didn't have the same budget for War, certainly would've made up for the formulaic story and vanilla characters.

Ok... this comment confuses me. The movie is an adaptation based on the comic book series by the same name. Why would you expect it to be different from the source material?

Wouldn't that be the same as saying that the Lord of the Rings movies were too 'predictable' because they faithfully followed the books?

Is it me or does Superman's head get unusually large from time to time ? Literally I mean
