I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, please let me kow!
So a few weeks ago I bought one of Prop-Builders beautiful Mosquito-in-Amber form the junkyard. Initially I had bought it for myself but when it arrived and I went to see JP3D in cinemas with a friend I decided this was the perfect gift for his birthday. Only the piece lacked that proper display alure.
I loved this piece since I unwrapped it from the shipping box..
I set out and with the help of some RPF members I got the vectors I needed to lasercut a displaybase for the amber. I had to drill a 6mm hole in the underside of the amber. I clamped the thing down between some wood and styrofoam to keep it upright and used a drill rig to drill straight down. First I went in with a 0.5mm bit and then went gradually bigger.
Laser engraving the logo and cutting it.
I used a piece of 8.25mm acrylic for the base. The rod (blue...) is 6mm acrylic. I still want to replace it with a clear one... even though it's already given away.
I needed it to become a 'museum quality' piece. So I had a friend whip up a nice ID card for the piece.
60mm x 100mm on heavy cardstock.
These are wedged between a clear and a gloss black piece of 3mm acrylic. My brother (partner in crime with most props) wanted to have the tekst engraved in the clear acrylic. But in mirrorview on the backside of the clear. That looks fantastic but I forgot to print cards without text.. I engraved the JP logo on the black acrylic too. When we turned that around and with the engraved text an even better name card was born. One without the cardboard... I decided to just give my friend the choice between the two.
I had bought a box and some leftover styrofoam and I fitted all the pieces in there.
Later I even covered all the foam in black cloth. No picture though
I traced the Ingen logo in Illustrator and cut some vinyl stickers for the box. I also whipped up some shipping tags on the box. The QR code is scannable and sends the text "Property of International Genetic Technologies Inc. Handle with Care". The barcodes we discovered are for a samsonite bag...
The final package looks like this:
I'm not the best photographer so I'll have my friend make some better pictures. I'm really happy with the end results. And he really appreciated the gift!
If anyone needs vector images for the Ingen logo shoot me a message.
thanks for reading and looking forward to your comments and critique,
