Jurassic Park Jeep #29 Replica

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have always enjoyed looking at some of the amazing builds found here. While my build might not be as technical as most of them here I thought I would share my Jurassic Park Jeep 29 replica. It was a lot of fun and took quite a while to get together all the parts and materials to put together.

Long time Jeep owner, built many from Military GPW's to the modern TJ. So this is a project I have wanted to do for quite some time.

This Jeep is a replica as seen in the opening scenes of Jurassic Park. This particular Jeep the park benefactor and lawyer rode in to the visitor center. There seem to be more replicas of the #12 and #18 so we decided on #29.

Found this Sahara in NC, it was the 93 Champagne and not the 92 Satin Metallic. But good condition otherwise.

It had various mechanical issues and many leaks. Nothing I hadn't had with my other Jeeps so I ended up working on it thru the winter and enjoying it when I could.

Repairs were made to:
Exhaust Manifold
Rust Repair on Frame
Transmission Seals
Valve Cover
Emission System Repairs

Here is the frame after coating with POR15:

After I finished on these I started trying to round up the parts needed for the build including wheels and the ever elusive lightbar.

Found a barely used spare on craigslist much cheaper that the $150 new:

Found the wheels locally, ended up buying two sets of 4 so I have some spares left over. Here are the wheels donning their red color.

The lightbar was found thru Jeepforum from a chance on a WTB post, it is the OE Mopar Unit from the movie. It had a good bit of surface rust so I coated in POR15 and restored it for paint.

I had it professionally painted since I wanted to keep the existing base coat, scuff the basecoat and shoot the red then spray a satin clearcoat over top of it all. My rear flares were chewed up pretty good so they painted the new pair for me, perfectly matching.

I let the shop work on the Jeep at their leisure, and they did it as filler work. They did a great job as they have for me in the past.

The stencils were sourced thru a member on jurassicparkjeep.com and I sourced the door logos locally. The side numbers were stenciled off to show color underneath. The hood logo is done in the same red paint as the stripes.

The satin clear over the factory champagne is a very close resemblance to the low gloss 92 color. I'd love to park next to one and see if a difference could be seen. That saved the $ of a respray.

We finished it this past week and got it put back together. Here are some finished shots. It turned out great for what money I have in it. Still have a winch and mount to save for.

The folks at jurassicparkjeep.com were very helpful in the build with reference materials and such I needed for this project.

Its a real crowd pleaser. My kids 3 and 5 love to go ride in the "dinosaur jeep". It attracts conversation and a crowd wherever it goes. You can't go anywhere without being noticed.

I've been wanting one of these for the longest time now! Great job! I've got an ML500, like in the 2nd movie, but I haven't the heart to convert it. lol

I'd love to do one of those camo ML320's. But I am out of garage space and not sure my marriage would survive first buying a Benz, then painting it camouflage and up-armoring it like the movie ML. But that would make for one bad daily driver. Might be hard to go to the drive thru with the bars on the windows :lol.

Maybe.... Later.....

Thanks for the positive comments, if someone does the chopper I'll meet them at the helipad. It does get alot of looks on the road. There still are alot of JP fans out there.

Fantastic work, thanks for sharing. I would love a JP explorer, think i'll get one after i get a Ghostbusters Ecto 2.

Great Jeep. Now just get a Cryo-Can, Nightvision Goggles and a ton of the brochures for the back and you'll be set.

Did someone say goggles? Man that's a badly needed and VERY overdue prop right there!!

Love looking at the Jeeps, they're so.....pretty :)
I find myself drooling at mine out the office window every morning.

Yes, long term I'd like to outfit some pelican cases with a maxa beam, flares and brochures like the movie. As well as a East Dock sign I could display with the Jeep at events.

Awesome - a 'live' prop that is so well executed. My 10 yr old just asked where we can get one from?! Fantastic sir. Now to let my son down gently!
