Well! I'll see your six-year-old necropost and raise you a year!
I am on the hunt now for these. BUT, mine (I'm hoping anyway) will be reprogrammed to cover the FRS frequencies, so they will become "family radios" for actual convoy use. I contacted Motorola and they sent me to their authorized service centers, and I have contacted three of them in my area (no reply as of now).
Reprogramming requires a DOS 3.1 (I think) machine that doesn't run too fast, or it will corrupt. Pentiumsaurus Rex appropriately enough.
Anyway, there are plenty of cheap radios out there, but in order to reprogram to the desired frequency range, I need to locate specific models. I want to have at least two of these, and a maximum of six possibly.
I was looking for decent family radios anyway, and then I remembered the walkies from the film, and figured I could do this... technically possible for sure; just need to find the right person inclined to do the work.
Stay tuned!
