Jumanji movie Board game replica

Nothing yet, sorry. I only see the man who is carving this once a week at church and he's not been there a few weeks. I'm eager to get it done too, but I haven't been able to get any updates myself. As soon as I know anything more I WILL post updates.
 
OK, well I'm now back in possession of the carved top. The hunter's hair has been added and the whole thing has been sealed. So technically it's now ready to mold/cast.

I don't have the materials/skills to mold and cast this myself - the original idea was that my friend who carved this would do the molding and casting, but it's looking like he will be too busy with other work. I suppose it's possible that if someone in the UK with the skills and a good rep on the board could mold and cast it for me/us, then some kind of business arrangement could be worked out.....
 
I've got some ideas on this on how to replicate the box in real wood cheaply. I can't paint so I wont be able to complete this prop, but I can make a machine carve the wood the same way over and over and i bet we can get most or all of the details. i'll get on this when i get more time. this is a great project

exactly.

It'd take a bit for me to 3d model this, but once i'm done i can have the machine carve them out. it's pretty complex so it'd take me a bit to model it, and then also it'd take the machine a bit to put in all the details, but it can do it.

Howlrunner, another option is for me to 3d scan the board your friend carved, and then use that file to carve it with the cnc machine.

I'm not 100% sure on this as it's an old memory. I believe the vacuform "Buck" Frightstuff Ken uses to make his Jason masks is created out of liquid wood.

If this is true the damn thing looks like wood and it's very strong and it will last for a long time.

You could silicone mold the handcarved original and cast liquid wood copies. You should check in with Ken first to see if that is what his buck was made of.

As for making a 3d digital copy. You could create a much better and more accurate replica using a simple texture map trick in Zbrush.

The jumanji board games basic form is on a flat rectangular plain. A simple HD image of the actual prop could be poly painted onto a rectangular model in Zbrush.

Selecting "Mask by intensity" would convert the images color information into depth control information.

Using one of the sculpting brushes or the "Deformation" menus "Inflate" option, would turn this image information into a raised 3d shape on the surface of the model. Some re-sculpting and clean up work would be needed, but not much if the source image was extremely clear.
 
I was just confused because you said in that thread I linked that you had measured 16 in photoshop, and that maybe the prop builder was confused

I can tell you that I had spoke to the guy who designed the top of the gameboard, and it is sculpted (which I'm sure you guys already knew that.), but the rest of the gameboard, including the inside and the game pieces were designed and created by two other prop builders.
Of course this being a prop, it was all resin, but I love how we all try and make it a real carved wood version!
The dimensions he gave me for this gameboard are 17" x 13" x 3" in
depth.

Interestingly, I recently stumbled across the website for Milano Woodworks in Costa Rica that claim to have made the original board for the movie. According to them it seems that the board WAS carved wood (though the wording allows that maybe they didn't create the top, which could have been sculpted).

I was measuring up the board top today in order to draw out a 1:1 plan for the gameboard inside (;)) and discovered that it's not been made to the movie dimensions that I provided the carver. Rather than being 17" x 13" (which the movie prop is), my replica is 17" x 12" (1" too short in height). Would people still be interested in casts or is the sizing inaccuracy a deal breaker?
