Juliet's death scene from Lost + jughead prop

EDIT: This costume started out as a joke, now it's going to happen. I love this board - people take costuming so seriously they don't want to let a little thing like 'it's a REALLY bad idea' to stop a costume from happening. :lol

So big thanks to Nachtinis, faille and especially Jackdoud for inspiring me beyond my silliness.

So my husband and I are flying out to Dcon this year and I'm trying to think of easy costumes to bring on the plane.

I love going as Juliet from Lost, but wanted to try something more fun than the work jumper.

How about Juliet's death scene?

The costume is pretty easy:

It would just take a bit of fake blood on my face:

And then all I'd have to do is build this prop and carry it around with a big rock that she smashes it with and everyone would know who I was, right?

I think I easily could fit that in my carry - on too.

So what do you think? :lol

Re: Dragoncon Costume idea - Is this a good idea?

I am detecting some sarcasm in this post, but ill bite, so you mean to say you want to carry a homemade tube with wires sticking out of it that could easily be mistaken for... wlel you know what, in your carry-on, on a plane, in the USA?

Right.

As for recognizeability, for sure, i think that there is a hige lost panel every year as well, maybe look up to see when that is.

What you might want to do is build it, then ship it to a fellow rpf-er and have them drop it to you during the con.

Seeing as how close to the con it is, i dunno timeframe wise.

But in all seriousness, i am not sure how relaxed or serious things are for your airoirt but they might not let you past security with that, in a carry on.

I might be wrong tho, i havent flown with props in a long time.

Re: Dragoncon Costume idea - Is this a good idea?

Only if you bring Sawyer along for eye candy, and walk around all day telling everyone "it worked"

Good point about the bomb-like nature of the.. bomb... You could probably get away with it by adding the wires after you get there, maybe make the top come off so you can stuff stuff in there so it's just a really cool sock holder or something.

Re: Dragoncon Costume idea - Is this a good idea?

I really am just joking about taking this on a plane. :lol

It actually did seem like a really fun costume until I remembered how on edge the world is right now. I don't think I want to risk going out in public with a bomb looking thing for a handful of people to recognize the costume.

For a private costume party I'd do it in a heartbeat. :D

Re: Dragoncon Costume idea - Is this a good idea?

I'm pretty much across town from you and I'm driving to d-con. If you've got your heart set on it I could help with transport. :angel

Re: Dragoncon Costume idea - Is this a good idea?

Wow, I didn't realize I had an even closer neighbor than Iycis! Thanks so much for the offer, I don't know that I'd actually get to it, but... I'll be in touch by PM if I get my other costume pieces done and feel confident enough to tackle one more.

:D

(this thread was more just to joke about, but it is starting to seem more and more fun)

Re: Dragoncon Costume idea - Is this a good idea?

Found the shirt today at JCPenny - well a close enough to make this work. Contacted Jack - now to build it and find some fake blood.

I am insane to try to do this so close to leaving when I'm not even done my other stuff yet.

Any ideas on how to make it quickly? I'm thinking maybe PCV pipe. Maybe I'll take a trip to Lowes or Home Depot on Saturday. Crazy I tell you.

A Pringles can, cardboard, silver spray paint, black acrylic paint, craft foam, paper brads, screws, silver and black duct tape, glue and phone wire. It's smaller than the actual prop, but it does the job and is easily carried in a back pack for between the hotels at Dcon.

Thanks a bunch to Jack for offering me enough of a viable solution to get this to Atlanta make this costume happen. :)

I'll try to get in the costume and post something before Dcon- but not sure when I'll have time since my kids start cyber school tomorrow and I'm the learning coach... and I still have a few more things to finish before we leave!

Foam Rock or Real Rock? Foam Rock could cram inside the pringles can for easy stowage. This is so awesome.

Faille, you going to be at Dcon??

I forgot to give a rock to Jack when he picked it up, so where would I get a foam rock?? I'm thinking more for the weight now than anything, the can is sealed so it's not going to hold much (plus all the screws and brads are sticking into it - thing would be scary to stick your hand into it. haha!)

I do have some 'black rocks' that I bought for my scales. I could just use one of those. They are small, but the significance is cool.

Also, I made this for my husband to carry as Jacob:

Here's the image if you can't see it because of the shine:
