Not making any kind of comment about what Indy's is worth, I'm sure its worth every penny. I only have so much though, LOL. Can anybody suggest a less expensive, but still fairly accurate one of good quality?

I've heard good things about the red balls coat...
That's probably the one I'm going with.

theres a company on ebay that makes a wool one, its as accurate as youre going to get for cheap. the redballs coat is the wrong fabric and not very accurate...its just purple. mine was privately made and no more are being made. if you want a good coat, you have to shell out ten fold. id say open a credit card haha

Re: So I cant afford Indy Magnoli's Joker overcoat - whats the next best one?

thats the problem - I cant tell from pics what is a quality coat and what in person will look like a "costume". The Baron Boutique one looks pretty nice and is much more affordable... but like I said I dont want to buy it then have it just look cheap...

Re: So I cant afford Indy Magnoli's Joker overcoat - whats the next best one?

the baron coat is pretty horrible. if you look at it, its not accurate at all in shape or cut. they got the color right, but the coat is wrong. the buttons are completely wrong as well

Re: So I cant afford Indy Magnoli's Joker overcoat - whats the next best one?

If you find the fabric for me, I might be talked in to making one. I'm starting to get really into this Joker costuming sort of vicariously through everyone else. I haven't examined the details yet, but I am pretty sure it's a wool melton. Just have to find the right shade of purple.

Re: So I cant afford Indy Magnoli's Joker overcoat - whats the next best one?

well someone else would have to find the fabric - I know practically nothing about making clothes, LOL

What price range we talking here? Just to get an idea not starting an interest thread. Magnolis goes for what $850 Baron $350? How much of a differance if we supply the fabric or should this be more of a PM thing.

Re: So I cant afford Indy Magnoli's Joker overcoat - whats the next best one?

The coat I got from Asia - around $100 is absolutely awesome. The color is not exact, but it is perfectly fit and has all the looks and feel of a store-bought wool coat. The coat even has that wide-opened cuff. The only thing I will do to the coat is have the buttons replaced.
The maker no longer offers these on Ebay but will take orders for them anyway.
They can be contacted at cosplay2010@yahoo.com.cn
They may take a bit to respond, but have great customer service and thier price cannot be beat.

heres the one I went with. im hoping to have mine next week some time and I can get some better pics for you guys and give my 2 cents. my indy shirt showed up today and my vest showed up yesterday so im getting pretty close to finishing the suit just need gloves and a chain, then off to the make up.

I also uploaded V1 of my joker suit I know nothing was accurate on it but it was the best that I could come up with in 2 weeks.

Good question. Probably closer to the Baron price if it's just for labor alone, but we'd make sure that was of better quality. Even open a thread to nitpick details, find a fabric source, etc.

I can tell you what kind of fabric to look for (wool melton) but I don't fancy tracking down the right shade of purple at the moment. I do, however, have it on good authority that MJ Cahn's stock purple melton is too blue.

try www.utopiabase.com

they have the coat the vest and the shirt for good prices...the coat is 160 i think.

Re: So I cant afford Indy Magnoli's Joker overcoat - whats the next best one?

Here is a place that sells melton wool in different colors for about 19.00/meter. The down side is the minimum purchase is 10 meters. http://www.militaryheritage.com/wool.htm

That's a cool find. I just emailed them about swatches as well as mood in NYC. We'll see what we turn up. If the 10 yard minimum place turns out to be the one, I'm sure we can scrounge up a run here. It takes about 3 yards to make a coat.

Couple of Purple options I got from Mood today. Opinions?

Can't really see the color here. 2 looks black 1 looks charcoal for me. I'd go with the brighter one as it would come out better in pix but that's just me.

BTW, how accurate is the Utopia version? Has anyone here got one?

Edited that last post to show a better pic in natural light. Hopefully the second one isn;t a dead on match because they only have 2 yards of it left. They have 20 of the other.
