John Lennon's Circus Poster (Benefit of Mr Kite)

So far every bit of trivia and information I have been looking for is common knowledge on The RPF so here is one that has bugged me for a while.

I have been looking for a copy of the poster John Lennon used as inspiration for "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!"

I have seen it for sale here: Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite - The Beatles: Rock Art Show - Rock n Roll Artwork - Rock and Roll Art

But the size (11x17) doesn't look like the (only) image I have found of the one John actually owned.

I have seen others do even longer reproductions : http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs37/i/2008/246/5/3/Benefit_for_Mr_Kite_by_godofodd.jpg

Does anyone have a clue on this one? I tried distorting it based on the center and I get 11x22 - but I can't tell if the frame or the angle is messing it up. The first link for $20 is cheap so I'd buy it, but quality looks poor.

Thanks as always

Thank you, too. The Lennon photo really throws off the height of this. I may try to rework this (someday....)

Maybe I'll do it too, when I have some time left. This is a cool prop and I'm a huge Beatles fan. :)

If you do it that would be awesome... looking forward to it. I am messing around with it in Illustrator now.

My license plate is ABBYRD (ABBEYRD was taken)... I am a big fan, too.

Awesome! I would love to have this as well. I've loved the Beatles since I was a kid. I am disappointed that I haven't thought of this prop before.:facepalm:cool It would make a great wall hanger in my music room.

Really? Cool! So guess where I am on these photos! :D

Looks familiar... it's not Penny Lane. Hmm... it will come to me in a second.

Very awesome, by the way. I hope to travel there in the next 5 years!

Also... how hard was it to get the street alone to yourself like that? Is it pretty dead most days?

Don't ask! :lol

The first picture was made in a late afternoon and the second one in a late evening. And I really had to hurry because that's a very busy road. Look at the first picture: The next bus is already on its way. If you're there together with a couple of friends and you want to make a picture with a tripod (positioned in the middle of the road) and in self-timer mode - forget it! :lol

Ah... well done then!

Beautiful!
You know...in all my years of Beatle fandom I had never seen or read that...what a pleasure to do so.
Thanks guys :)

I'm actually working on a high-quality replica right now. I'm waiting on some print samples before I post an interest thread, but I thought I'd give you a sneak peek here, in case you're interested. As it's not really a prop, I doubt I'll get much interest here, so I'll probably end up sticking them up on the bay.
It'll be silkscreen printed onto a heavy off-white paper stock from French Papers. Silk screening will be the closest I can get to how the original would have been printed without engraving some plates and getting a printing press. And I think it'll really stand out from your typical poster.

Take a look at the pics below and let me know what you think! Before I even get started on an interest thread, I'd really value some opinions.

Here's a look at the overall piece (please excuse the watermark):

Here it is side-by-side with the original:

And here's a closer look at the detail (this is shrunk down to less than half-size of my master file, which takes up almost a GB):

It's a good idea to offer it here to RPF members before sending it to ebay. What do you think?:thumbsup

Oh, I definitely will. But I don't know how much interest I'll get for something that's not a prop replica. I think I'll offer it for less on the RPF as well.

I was just hoping to see what a few people think of my efforts so far, or if there were any suggestions for tweaks before I go to print.

Maybe I'll just go ahead and start an interest thread.
