JJ ABRAMS Enterprise

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

Yes, the bussards are off in that pic. It was either Ryan Church or Bob Orci who said it over on Trekmovie.

Here's another tweak...

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

That highlights what's wrong with the Abrams design. the secondary hull is just too small and throws the whole rest of the ship off balance.
I concur. I can live with the rest, but the secondary hull being so small makes the whole ship seem disproportionate. EchoSix's "tweak" looks much better IMO.

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

Yes, so far I haven't seen Abrams amateurish design bettered by the amateurs here. Love though there is in the attempt. Good design is a serious craft not to be trifled with. It's just that we laypeople can often recognize when it's wrong - even if we don't quite know why or how to fix it. Clearly. And that goes for me, too :)

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

Well I see that Playmates has announced the first wave of Trek Movie figures, and they are in 3 3/4-inch scale! same size as all those Star Wars figures. So you fanatics can finally have Vader btch-slap Captain Kirk, thus fulfilling thirty years of deeply-held fantasies. :lol

  • Kirk in Enterprise outfit
  • Sulu in Enterprise outfit
  • Uhura in Enterprise outfit
  • Pike in Enterprise outfit
  • Spock in Enterprise outfit
  • Scotty in Enterprise outfit
  • Nero in Enterprise outfit
  • Prime Spock in Enterprise outfit

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

Not a fan of the engine nacelles, what's with all the fan blades and intakes?Having said that though I do hate the design less the more I see it but I probably won't be spending any money buying a plastic representation of this though.

So in order of design coolness(to my eye)

Enterprise-A/Refit Enterprise
Enterprise-D
Enterprise-C
TOS Enterprise
Enterprise-E
Enterprise Enterprise
Abrams' Enterprise
Enterprise-B

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

It kind of surprised me at first, but I think the changes will grow on me. I'm just hoping the story is good enough that I won't be thinking about nitpicks in design while watching...

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

I like your list, Drone! I too am one of the few who can appreciate the 1701-D. :cool

I'd put TOS higher up tho... my list would go

TOS (sweet)
TMP (even better in some ways but classic still rules)
1701-D (mmm)
1701-C (jaunty!)
NX-01 (sigh... reluctantly :lol)
1701-B (ugh, Excelsior)
1701-E (my eyes, the goggles do nothing)

and uh.. wait and see on the Abrams.

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

The resemblance to the 1701-C is rather striking. I always did like the C. :cool

The saucer section definitely dominates, and both ships have the huge fantail cutaway down below. The C just feels more "right" somehow... the tucked-in low nacelles really work here, and they are held out on those right-angle supports as opposed to th wonky airplane-wing supports on the Abrams.

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

Put in context like that I will say it has presence, but it still looks like it was made by aliens.

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

Least it's not as radical as the Nemesis version. For some reason I didn't like that version. This new design is okay to me and I consider myself a fan.

Re: JJ AMBRANS Enterprise

It's not exactly what I wanted to see, but it's Trek and it gives me one more opportunity to enjoy the franchise with the original characters.

Dave :)
