Okay, I'll chime in...
I'm with Matt Munson.
If you feel the need to express your opinion on ship design, props, sets, costumes, continuity issues, etc. etc., have at it. If you feel the need to state that you refuse to see the movie based on these issues, that's fine by me. But to keep bantering back and forth about these same issues seems rather frivolous.
So what can one do after expressing their opinions?
Sit back. Relax. And either see the movie or don't. But it is rather apparent that those that don't want to see it based on whatever existing material about the movie has been released to date, won't, and those that are intrigued by it, will -- the only thing gained by this continuous back and forth can only serve one purpose, I guess, and that's to understand more fully WHY one is going to see it or not.
In the end, all this discussion amounts to one thing -- the movie will come out. It will be a 2-hour experience, and then it will be over. It will be what it will be. And for those that decide to go see it will either like it or not -- and discussions will ensue.
Would I like to see more TV shows/films about the original crew wearing the exact same shirts walking the exact same corridors on the exact same ship from the original TV series? Sure -- would make for an interesting CGI mini-series a la Final Fantasty movie techniques -- and maybe they'll do this one day. Or not.
But from what I've seen, despite my initial disappointment that it isn't the same ship, same phasers,. etc etc, I am looking forward to what JJ Abrahms does with the characters and, quite frankly, am looking forward to what the new ships/sets/props will look like as well.
To those who have decided already NOT to see it, so it goes. If it turns out that the new movie is well done and has a great story, perhaps you'll change your mind.
If not, then maybe they'll do the CGI thing and make a mini-series styled exactly on original series look/feel/characters and storytelling approach, and we can all like that.
Peace. Live Long & Prosper.
