    Casting on demand!

Finally updating this thread because Photobucket SUCKS. NOW offering TLJ Helmets

    Hi All!
Slots are open and a 40% down payment (prices below) reserves you a slot. Once slots are filled up, you can be added to the waitlist for the next run.
Armor will be cast in our new flexible fiberglass mix and will be cast in white as well. We’ve designed it to be very easy to assemble. Armor will include all hard parts for either The Force Awakens (TFA) or The Last Jedi (TLJ) configurations.
You can check out the build threads here:
    http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=239344 for the basic armor

And this video showcases the material we use:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJdmn8KekTQ&t=15s

2017 helmets: TLJ on theleft, TFA on the right
    S0zk6R.jpg

Here's the finished armor in the TLJ configuration. It's made of flexible fiberglass, surface finished and painted withpolyurethane auto paint. In this pic i am 5'8.5" 185 lbs with a 38"waistline. The armor will probably fit someone 5'7"-6'1” with a wide range of girths without too much modification.

    FAQ
    1) Will this armor fit me?
A > Without mods, this armor will fit someone 5'6" to around 6'1". Waistline 32" - 45" (guestimate). Thighs are 27" circumference at the widest part. Biceps are 17". If you are familiar with working with fiberglass, or know someone who is, you can modify the armor to fit outside the range. FOTK armor is actually more of a “one size fits almost all” kind of design with gaps being covered by the gaskets

    2) Is this armor 501st approved?
A > First off, the 501st doesn't approve just the armor. Nor is any armor "501st approved" out of the box. You have to have all the elements of the whole costume, build and wear the costume to match the CRL and be approved as an individual. That being said, i followed the drafting of the CRL for the FOTK closely and built my armor to be approvable. Some mods will have to be done for the armor to conform to standard, but these mods are minimal and easily done. As of November 11 2015, i'm happy to report that i've been officially 501st approved as a First Order TK in this armor. Another buyer has since been approved as well and more are sure to follow.

    3) What is new for this 2017 run?
A> We’ve updated our sculpts and molds so that this will be more accurate out of the box with less additional work for you to be done. We’ve also improved the surfaces of the parts to get them as smooth as possible fresh from the mold to minimize surface finishing before painting. We’re also now offering The Last Jedi configurations of the FOTK.

    4) Where do I get the rest of the costume (rubber/cloth gaskets, gloves, boots).
A> You can get accurate capes from Jessica Bowyer on FB. Teresa Nuthall makes cloth gaskets as well. Gloves: any smooth black gloves will do. Undersuit: any black bodysuit will do. Boots, black ankle boots

    5) What is the lead time for orders?
A> 1-2 weeks, depending on demand.

    Thanks for the interest!
    Jim

Still 2 slots left for the September run. Target date for these to ship out is mid-October. If you want to suit up before the premier this might be your chance.

Re: Jimmiroquai's TFA Stormtrooper Armor Set

Phasma parts (helmet, shin, foot, hand parts) are all still on the drawing board. But it looks as though the whole set of FOTK armor still needs to be used with the exception of the helmet. The rest of the Phasma parts will be add-ons. So if you want, you can order just the armor, so i can ship that out by mid October. If the Phasma parts are available by then, i can ship it with the rest of the armor. If not, i can ship out the armor first, so that you can start working on it in advance, then send you Phasma parts once available. But i still have no absolute time table for the Phasma parts yet.

Re: Jimmiroquai's TFA Stormtrooper Armor Set

You will need to send a USD $300 deposit by Sept.13 so i can start casting your FOTK armor set. :) Target date for these to ship is mid October. As for the Phasma parts, I don't know when exactly i can have the helmet or upgrades ready. Work has been started on the helmet but completion will depend on how accurate we can get it on the first try. Of course it's your choice if you want to buy Phasma bucket from anyone else and it would not be an issue. I can let you know when Phasma upgrades will be available as soon as i have an idea. Rest assured we are working on it, because our garrison needs a Phasma as well. Where are you located so i can pm you a shipping quote?

Ok! I'll add you to the list. Down payment is USD $300 via paypal to jimmiroquai@yahoo.com. And shipping to just the armor is $167 to be paid with the balance once it's ready to ship, mid October. If the Phasma parts are ready by then, the helmet will have to be packed in a separate box and shipped separately. If not, i'll send your fotk armor first. Thanks again!

This ships from the Philippines as stated in the start of the thread. :) It will take some time to cast and clean the sets so these ship out 2nd or 3rd week of October. Shipping takes 2-3weeks. So it should get to you by end Of Oct or early November. :)

My fiberglass guy will let me know by next week if he can accommodate more sets and still deliver on time. This will depend on materials and man power. So the waiting list is still open. Next and last run for the year will be in mid October with a target release of early to mid-November.

I sculpted the kit using my frame as a reference. I'm 5'8.5", 185lbs, 38" waistline. But again, the fiberglass resin used is very, and i mean, very flexible. It won't crack. And it will fit a wide range of girths. Height wise, it will fit a range of 5'6" to maybe 6' without mods. :)

Re: Jimmiroquai's TFA Stormtrooper Armor Set

Good news! My fiberglass guy will be bringing in more labor to help with casting more sets and reaching the mid-October release. So i've opened up 5 more slots. I've moved up the first five on the waiting list to the current run and will be contacting you individually in a bit. More slots can be opened up if we finish early.

In the spirit of transparency just wanted to share that after 2 troopings with my flexible fiberglass TFA armor, my chest plate has some hairline cracks, but only in the paint and not in the fiberglass itself. Only noticeable up close though. Not sure if it's due to the flexing when worn and taken off (which is not much) or due to stretching and compressing in storage or if the clearcoat/bondo was too thick. On the other hand, the paint on my flexible ab armor, which flexes A LOT, has no signs of cracking. So it maybe multifactorial.

I've also added a FAQ in the first post.
@somethingsogood & CoachA - I've added you to the waiting list. Thanks!
@ISBEAR - widest part of thigh has an inner circumference of 27" and the biceps have an inner circumference of 17". If you are familiar with fiberglass or know someone who is, you can modify these parts to fit if these are too small for you.

None at the moment. I chose to leave it out because there were several blaster builders building their own mounts as well. So you have the option of attaching those to the right leg. I am having a blaster and mount commissioned as well.

I came from my fiberglass guy yesterday to check on the armor progress. He already has two sets done, pending modifications for 501st approvability. I can ship these out as they get them on hand. So the first ones on the list will get theirs ahead of schedule. I plan to be able to ship all the sets on or before 2nd week of October to be able to start the 3rd run.

Re: Jimmiroquai's TFA Stormtrooper Armor Set

I wish we had more 6' and up folks over here but the average height here in the Philippines is 5'5" so i don't really have anyone to test fit at that height. I did incorporate allowances in the design but armor is never really 100% one size fits all. My main concern with the taller guys is that there might be a gap between the chest and ab section or that the biceps maybe be too short. But this is without mods. If you are familiar with fiberglass or know someone who is, then spacers can easily added and glassed on to fit.

So if we need to cut down on the girth, how difficult is this to work with like normal armor kits? Meaning, I can built armor all day long seamless, but I am unfamiliar with this material so I want to be sure that I could, say, cut down on the thighs to better fit my form. I always get nervous when I see "flexible" as those materials aren't generally as straight forward as ABS or resin. Thoughts?

Re: Jimmiroquai's TFA Stormtrooper Armor Set

Hi! Good question! First off, FOTK armor is kinda/sorta one size fits most such that gaps in length or girth are covered up by the gaskets. In fact, as shown in the anovos armor, a builder can trim the length if too long, but can't really alter the girth much because of the specific placement of the recessess for the clip/latch greeblies. If you look closely at pics, while there are a variety of heights there is relative uniformity of limb girth. So if you are thinner, you can secure the fit with some foam and your gaskets will hide your arms/legs. Does that make sense? But if you really do want to alter the girth of the limbs, my very very experienced fiberglass guy says you can adjust the armor using any semiflex fiberglass resin as you normally would semiflex/rigid fiberglass. I have asked him to make me a sample of this so i can show you how stuff will behave as i am curious myself.

Ah ok. I asked because those thighs look huge and I'm pretty sure would look silly on me at that width. I'm pretty used to building stuff out, but if it can't really be modified I may have an issue. I'm very interested to see what you FG guy has to say. Thanks!

I've trimmed my thighs too short, making them look bigger and chunkier than they really are. I should have trimmed from the crotch and butt area instead to make them go up higher on my thigh. I'm in the process of building a set for a friend of mine who's about the same height as i am but waay thinner (he cosplays Power Rangers well). So hopefully i can correct the mistakes i made during the first prototype build and he can serve as a better model as i do have more of a "dad bod". :) Folks can also see how this will look on a thinner frame.
