Jim Thompson wrote an IRONSIDE novel?

What is Ironside?

"Know, O Prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Banacek and the Streets of San Francisco, and the rise of the Sons of Anarchy, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars. Hither came Ironside, the wheeled one, grey-haired, sullen-eyed, detective chief, a special department consultant, with brains, initiative, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to roll the jewelled thrones of the Earth under the wheels of his... well, wheelchair."

Seriously, just a San Francisco-based detective show in the mid-70s I loved. The amazing thing isn't that there were paperback novelizations of the thing; it's that Jim Thompson, possibly the most grizzled hard-boiled writers of detective fiction of all time... was contracted to novelize a cop show story.

No kidding!

It's always interesting to hear about important writings hacing to "slum it" it the commercial world.

I love how WIlliam S Burroughs first novel was marketed as a 50's drug exploitation novel and not a memoir.
