Jeremy Bulloch has passed away

Many men have worn the costume, but there has only ever been one man who was Boba Fett. One of the greatest honors I have had was shooting Jeremy in the costume members of The Dented Helmet made for him. We all have tried to emulate him, but the minute he was in costume, Boba Fett was in the room. It was a surreal and awesome moment
It was surreal. I watched Mr. Bulloch walk into a room and Boba Fett came out. How he carried himself, the way he walked. Fett was truly in the house.

On a serious note though; I've never seen anyone do as much with 5-6 minutes of screen time in my life. He spoke to the psyche of generations of nerds with one head nod. Legend.
And people would ask why I was so fascinated by such a minor character. Same reason I like Praji and Bast in ANH, They're just competent -- the characters show up, do their jobs, and are generally smarter than the other minions we see around them. And for probably the same reason. I'm grateful I've gotten to know George Roubicek (Praji), and I wish most of his work wasn't theater, because that's hard to find on home video. Both he and Jeremy come from stage and the discipline of being "working actors". Like so many of the minor characters from the OT. It was just a job... but, thanks to their training and experience, that infused the reality of those characters. It was just a job. Nothing personal. Praji succinctly reported all the particulars Vader needed to make his next move. Bast warned Tarkin, and then apparently availed himself of the escape ship he'd apparently already prepared, because we saw him directing the search in the Holiday Special (solid premise, even if executed horribly, and I was perfectly happy with it at four years old).

All of the subtle cues and movements Jeremy used, even when he had to step in to play the Imperial officer who dragged Leia through the door in the "IT'S A TRAP!" scene (it's like a poem -- it rhymes). He'd had to learn how to inject motivation and mood the scripts lacked. Every one of those little bits of screen time, he had blocked through what was in Boba's or that officer's head, how would he react, all of that. When you're playing a small stage, with the audience right there, you have to get good at that, and working all the little subtle things that make someone a real person that close to a scrutinizing audience. So Boba's subdued nod of acknowledgement and respect to a fellow bounty hunter, the officer at the last moment peering to see if he can catch a look at this mysterious individual that's caused his commander to issue such odd orders, the way he figured out to carry that HEAVY blaster during hours of shooting...

He was a good actor, and a good person, and a good friend, although I got to spend far, far too little time with him over the years. Here's my favorite picture...

Sad to lose yet another legend.

Art, those pictures are awesome. You can tell its him by the way he carries himself in the armor and how he tilts his head in the various poses.

I had an opportunity to meet him as well as David Prowse, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Caroline Blakiston at a small con in San Francisco back in 97.
I was even asked to escort Caroline on and off the stage since I was in a Rebel Pilot costume.

Dammit!

I met him at Star Wars Celebration 2015. Super nice guy. I talked to him for 20 minutes, about Boba Fett and being in a James Bond movie. He never sat down, never even went behind his table. He was always out engaging with the fans.

I can't believe 40 years after I first saw him as Boba Fett, that I would be lucky enough to be a small part of the crew that would bring his character back to the screen.

You will be missed, thanks for all you brought to the screen and to your fans.

Wow, you're not kidding! That pose...it's unmistakably Boba Fett!

He and Mr. Wingreen will always be the true Bounty Hunter. May he rest in peace.

Another one gone so soon. Heartbreaking. Like many of us, met Jeremy at a small con, and he couldn't have been nicer. Having so many people tell you how much they appreciate your work can't be a bad thing. Rest easy, Jeremy.
