Phillip Reeve (author of the books):
The Jenny Haniver has had a movie-makeover too, and looks very sleek and graceful with her lifting-body shaped-gasbag things. My chief scientific advisor Jeremy Levett assures me these are based on a real technology, and the only way to get the sort of lift Mortal Engines’s small and implausibly manoeuvrable airships enjoy without gigantic gasbags – I wish I’d known about that when I wrote the book.
I'll give it a try. With the semi-transparent gas cells and wings, the highly detailed gondola, and the overall fragility, this airship is quite challenging.
Some asked me why 1/160 scale and not bigger. Well, overall length and wingspan are both around 65 meters (estimated). Nearly Twice the size of a Falcon in every dimension. So 1/72 is not really an option for me.
Recreated from official trailers and featurettes.
