Jedifyfe's Wearable NIKE MAG Upgrade DISPLAY VIDEO

OK no seam. Thanks for that. Makes for interesting construction.

interesting picture.

from what i can see, it looks like just the upper piece is like 2 grey fabric foam pieces glued together, with the white upper stitched on top.

whilst the rest of the shoe is just 1 foam piece wrapped with grey fabric from each side up until where the white piece/upper starts.

trying to work out how the hell they stitched this thing.

It's built like a mobius strip...not really, but that's what I'm calling it. I've spent many a late night being driven crazy by this thing, but I think I've cracked it.

It't too difficult to type out, so you'll have to wait for one of my videos later to explain it.

I just took this with my phone, so I hope the quality is good enough, my DSLR battery is dead. Is this the area you're talking about. Jedi let us know if we are spamming your thread :cool

Is the strap sewn together or is it glued?

Hi
could you check your mags, and see how thick the main part of the shoe is? ie where the laces are and up until where the upper piece starts?

from the pic it seems the upper piece is 2 foam pieces covered with fabric then glued together, while the rest of the shoe is just 1 foam piece covered with fabric.

how thick is the upper part compared with the rest of shoe?
if you could possibly take a closeup of the lower part of the shoe where the laces begin so we can see how thick that part is, that would be helpful.

It looks glued together. don't think there's any stitch seams anywhere on the strap.

That's what I was thinking. First time ive seen the back ofthe strap, as I wondered if it was sewn from behind. I used ahot glue gun to glue to pieces of pleather to make my strap but I think an epoxy resin is best suited for a wearable shoe

No the straps are just glued and what gets me is how you can actually see this where the NIKE logo is. At least JEDI cuts his down so you don't get the separation. I folded mine, so you don't see this either.

Wow, thought that was my own pic for a second there ;) One of Aarons excellent jackets there I take it..?

Of course, its because of all you guys I even got in to all this as much as I did. This place became an obsession for me for a while after I did the hovering hoverboard project. But now I got my perfect outfit for comicon in a couple weeks. :)

How'd you mean?

Dond....do you also get them out occasionally and sniff the insides and sigh with satisfaction?

This seriously made me laugh out loud because it is so true. I'm waiting for a display box to be built, so in the meantime every night I'll just take one out and hold it, turn it on then off, give it a deep sniff and put it back. Yeah that's one of aaron's jackets, just waiting on a footware bag from Jovan, and i'd love to get a Gary Weaver pepsi perpect bottle to round out the collection.

I'll try to post a couple more pics later tonight for you guys. If I had a macro lens I could get in closer for detail.

Ok here are some more pics, I hope these are the areas you guys are talking about. Its hard to get too close because the lens won't focus right.

WOW! You've just earned yourself your own subfolder (between CloneProps and Jedifyfe) of reference pictures in my impeccably ordered Mags folder. Those pictures are great! Every time, I see them I swear I see something new.

One of these days I'd love to get 5 minutes alone with a pair and my calipers.

...A guy can dream can't he? :lol

hi Dondula7, could you let us know the exact height of your nike mag strap?

Jedifyfe great tutorial recommended 1 inch height for the strap which seems correct, but I was wondering what the actual exact height is on the real strap? I assume the buckle and straps are the same size on every shoe regardless of the actual shoe sizes I think?

Also, if you have time, if you could give the height and thickness of the mag buckle, that would be really helpful in helping me fixing the clay mold attempt im trying to complete. its a mission!
But Jedifyfe and others have inspired me to give it a go, despite my complete lack of skill.

Cheers

Awesome work, thank you.

OK, take a look at this shot which allows us to see the top profile of the strap. Note that where the NIKE logo is, the strap (which is 2 parts glues together) spreads. This, I believe, happens because the logo is the same height as the strap, so the join in the material has to separate to go around the LOGO. What Jedifyfe does (and I did the same) was to cut the logo down to fit inside the strap. In my case, I started with a piece wider than 2", and then folded it in half, then trimmed it down to be 1" wide.
This shot is interesting also because it shows what looks like that white vinyl piece is cloth backed as there is a double seem inside the "finger pull hole".

Ah I get you now. I suppose this doesn't matter considering you wouldn't be wearing a $3000 pair of trainers everyday, but If Nike are releasing the MAG as a full profuction shoe this is something they'd need to improve on as I could see the two pieces seperating

Too funny.. I have taken the cardboard insert out a few times now to sniff the left shoe, and it isn't as strong as the right shoe now :cry. Be careful not to oversniff them, you don't want to lose that magical smell :lol
