Jayne's bowie knife sheath.

I am making my own Jayne Cobb Bowie Knife sheath. I have a quick question about accuracy. Does anyone know just how the screen used knife sheath was constructed?

Should I make my bowie knife sheath as two sandwiched pieces of leather:

Or should there be an edge filler in between?:

I would go with the filler pieces. If you don't you will slice through what ever you use to sew the pieces together with.

Yeah, looks like there was a welt (or whatever you call it) there...
