Javik - Mass Effect 3 heacd sculpt and latex casting

Re: First time sculpting head - Javik - Mass Effect 3

Yeah, Javik! Not nearly enough of him around, imo.

Sucks to hear your first version broke. But! I think your second version came out looking improved, so its not a total loss :)
Good luck on this, I'll be subscribing cause I'm excited to see how this turns out.

Do you plan on making the armor as well?

i actually started making armor from game files convered to pepakura and will be making foam covered with fiberglass

Re: First time sculpting head - Javik - Mass Effect 3

So started cleaning mold from clay

now just need to brush out it from textured parts and its ready for casting

Did you release the sculpture before molding?

I'm only asking because of the paint stuck to the inside of the mold. I'd grab yourself some acetone and a cut down chip brush and get that out before casting latex in to the mold.
Otherwise you won't see that nice smooth surface you had from the primer before molding, you'll get the uneven underside of the primer thats showing now.

You may have already done this but I thought I'd throw it out there to make sure your castings come out as nicely as possible after all the hard work:)

i actually like how paint captured all small details, i did test pull with very thin latex to see how it captures details of paint and resign and lines between, because i brushed some paint off and saw that it looks good, no lines of transition or anything like that.

here is my first 2 layers of latex, ow i need it to cure properly and then apply more latex, gauze ad even more latex, to support top of the head

and here is my first pull from mold

Few minor bumps in back, a cavity between layers in one side of chin and thin part on on one side

more pictures, this time me wearing head cast, trimmed some lashing, eyes and a slit in back of the head. i will have to fill inside bubble in chin and reinforce one of the sides, also add fiberglass layer inside of carapace
