Lots of outlets reporting a plane registered to James has crashed with no survivors and James was presumed on board.

This is sad news no matter the outcome, even more so if he was on board. We're losing scored music in films to flavor of the month groups and he's one of the last holdouts.

Most people think of Titanic, for me it's the Main Title to Battle Beyond the Stars. Awesome theme!!

I always think of The Rocketeer when it comes to his scores.

I do hope he wasn't the pilot, and turns up OK.

For me, my favorite is Wrath of Khan. I know he "borrowed" from other composers, and recycled a number of musical ideas in his soundtracks, but I still enjoyed his work greatly, and hope to continue doing so.

I know he had gotten into aviation again and had written music for flight teams.
A big part of the movie magic I grew up with.

Looks like he was practicing aerobatics, controller mentioned radical climbs and dives,
G-LOC? Always cautious with first info though. NTSB report could take a while.

The interesting thing about that is that these planes are normally equipped with ejector seats but I don't know if they're allowed for civilian owned planes. If they are then he either wasn't able to eject or chose not to in order not to let the plane crash into populated areas.

Sigh. Judging from the very dramatic flight path, it looks like he was pulling some maneuvers that put the plane in a very stressful state. The way the last bit where it goes back and fourth in a straight line before it goes forward to the end, would that be him looping the plane?

I don't know if there are enough data points and resolution to determine exact maneuvers. Perhaps he
had a GPS logging data, they might find that.
Looking at it all it's clear he was having a good time out there in that final hour at least.
