I don't have one :cry .....is this a readily available item?

I got this a while back on that auction site. Once in a while you see them. Sorry I dont have an extra one to help you out.

Well let's see:

Moonraker
Superman II
Star Wars
Alien (black "cup" removed)
Aliens (painted Brown Bess)

That's one of the reasons I got one, because it covers these movies, and I'm certain more.

Do you have any screencaps from Superman II that shows the Headset?

Nope, but it's at the very begining. While the lander is on the moon (the arrival of the villains) notice the headsets that the guys in missin control are wearing. Look familiar. Yup, it's even John Ratzenberger...Cliff Claven wearing one. :lol

I noticed that this headset, or one very much like it, was also used by the future policemen/women in Demolition Man.

"I thought he said girl... What's a curl?"

"Isn't that what the old Canaveral guys called a comet with an east-to-west trajectory?"

It's so sad that I know these lines by heart but can't remember where my keys are.

Minilites were made by Racal (who stole the design from Plantronics). They were mostly used for aviation (both pilots and traffic control). Could be tricky to find: Even though Racal changed the design in the '90s, I'll bet alot are still in use (it's pretty robust construction); users tend not to let go of these until they outright fail and then they either get refurbed or tossed. Those that do turn-up will clearly be covetted by Star Wars and Alien(s) fans.

In addition to eBay, try used telephony or aviation equipment liquidators in the UK; Racal is in England and very little of their avionics product was distributed in the US (in fact, I think they've since abandonned avionics).

I used to work for Plantronics and one of our means of making inroads to the UK market was through product placements on all the Brosnan Bond films (sadly, Sony is a competitor so no more PLT for 007). Some genius eventually purged all the stuff returned by the studios (including custom units built to spec for Deep Impact), though I kept the headsets from GoldenEye and Die Another Day.
