Jack Sparrow Howard S Life Size Bust That I Painted Up Johnny Depp

I recently painted up my Howard S Jack Sparrow lifesize bust.
I had the blank bust since 2009 & finally got the courage to finish it.

It was by far the most difficult bust that I have ever painted/haired.:lol

I used many air brush/dry brush/wash techniques to get realistic skin tones.
I hand laid the hair on the face & modified a wig for his head.

I added the beads/coins which I know are not 100% accurate but I am happy with them.
I plan on adding a custom base with accurate clothes/belts in the future.

nice work. Yeah that bust was a LOT of work. Took me a while to finish mine with all the hair and teeth work. But it's my favorite by Howard.

Thanks guys.

I could not even begin to count the hours that I put into this project.
Overall I am very happy with how it turned out & I am glad that I took my time finishing it.
I am a big fan of Depp & the Howard S sculpts.

Streetjudge: I seen your Sparrow paint up thread a while back. Your paint ups are fantastic & you really know how to bring the resin to life.

Thanks man, that's nice of you to say. You aren't too shabby there either.. can you take some closer pics? I'd love to see your skin tones a bit more. Did you use glass eyes?

This is a pic I took before I haired the bust in fluorescent light.

I had later added a little more red washes in areas but this is the basic skin tone.
A litle bit of clear was also added after to some areas to give him a light sweat & shine the lips.

I used hazel glass eyes on this particular bust.
I have been able to get away with using some high quality acryic half rounds on other busts that I have painted but glass always looks more authentic.

Fantastic work, very impressive. You should be proud. Did you use acrylic paints? That's what I used when I painted my Harrison Ford bust.

Great job!
I really like the mottling and flocking effect you have going there to make it life-like.

Thanks again to everyone for the positive comments on the paint up.
There are so many fantastic artists/sculpters on this site & it is a great place to learn additional finishing techniques or be inspired to do a project.

I always use water based paints.
Mottling is really good technique for capturing a nice uneven skin tone.

The paint is fairly inexpensive but the time/techniques that you put into a project is what really brings it to life.

I took some better pictures in better lighting.

I also lowered the bandana for these set of pics.

Wow! After seeing the pure white "before" pic, you can see just how much work you put into it! Very, VERY good work, man. ^_^
