Jack Sparrow Frock Coat and Vest

I'm looking for the material needed to make a Jack Sparrow Frock Coat and vest. Any leads on the vest, coat and lining material/fabric would be greatly appreciated. I have searched and searched and have come up empty handed. Due to the fact that Sparrow's coat and vest are highly weathered, it's hard to distinguish what the exact shade of fabric is needed. Any helpful links, pms, etc. would be highly appreciated. Thanks a bunch all.

Got this information from the forum at captnjacksparrow.com (concerning the frock coat):

Lewis & Sheron Textile Co.
912 Huff Road
Atlanta, GA. 30318
Phone; 404-351-4833

The info you will need is:
Vender ID:1005
Raffia: 903 Ebony S/K 1042967

In 64" bolt $15.98 a yard. It is a linen raffia mix fabric.

But it seems that so many people ordered this fabric so it's unavailable at the moment. :eek

Hey i know that website, but never knew they had a forum.
i remember this particular jack sparrow and will turner.

thanks for the link
do you know how many yards i need to make a coat? + extra if i screw up. hehe

Indiana_Tom -Thanks a bunch for the post. That's exactly what I was looking for. As for the vest material, I'm still a little confused about that as well. Any info on that would be helpful.

SparrowFan -I'm working with a Simplicity pattern (4923) made for the Sparrow costume although I'm going to make modifications to the pattern to make it more movie canon. You may want to refer to this pattern for insite to your question. The Simplicity pattern is an okay starting point for the costume although pieces of it need to be altered. The pant pattern is decent. The shirt needs a bit of modification. The vest stinks and the frock coat needs some additional mods to make it more movie accurate.

Any help on vest material is what I'm after next. Thanks a bunch. :D

No problem, guys. ;)

But as I don't have experience on tailoring I can't tell you how much yards you need...

@Judge: I suggest you look for some kind of linen or something for the vest.

Wish you all the best

Tom

I'd say about 5 yards for the coat. PLus lining. That's what mind was made of and there was plenty leftover. Not enough for a full coat, but some. I re-did my cuffs with the amount left.

I think most of the costume was linen.

Hey KingNothing

when you made the coat below, did you do anything to the fabric in terms of coloring? because the color looks exact but when i saw close ups of the fabric from the web, it looks blue and yellow instead of blue and red.

was the coat fabric straight from the atlanta fabric store, or toby(colored) ?

Hhahahah oh my that's a gay pose. Anyways..
That's just as I got the material. From Toby. There's two sides. One has more of a gold in it, a bit more shiney, and this is the other side. I'm re-doing the cuffs and buttons. Along with adding the correct button hole loops and belts. :p Incase anyone was wondering.

Toby probably bought the lot. :lol :lol :lol

The coat looks great, sparrowfan...

Actually I think he did. I remember him tell me he bought a bolt of it. lol

Oh to clarify that's me in the pic there. :p

How many gussets does the Frock Coat have? Is it six or nine?? I want to say nine, but not totally sure. The simlicity pattern calls for six, however.

I'm not sure about this so forgive me if I have been mis-informed :unsure , but somebody told me that there is a feature with the wardrobe/costume designer on the 2 disc dvd release of 'dead mans chest' in which she names the fabric used on the original, as well as showing and talking about other costume elements is detail.

She's talks about how it was a light suit material and how they couldn't find the fabric until someone at the costume manufacturer found a bolt behind a couch. No names or such.

After searching for the "right" kind of material for the vest, I made a startling discovery. I actually purchased a regular blue corduroy material and bleached it. The results were absolutely shocking and looks wonderful. I don't use the outside of the corduroy material, but the inside instead. The fabric actually has a smidge of a purple tint to it and gives off reflections of a tad of grey tone. After weathering it, it should look pretty sweet.

As soon as I get this thing all sewed up, I will post some pics for critique.

is the fabric for the vest linen?
[/b]

Yes, the fabric for the vest is suppose to be linen. I'm going to give this corduroy a shot and see how it turns out. I can always start over if it doesn't give me the results I'm hopefully working on accomplishing. I want something a little bit more stout for the material, but have that screen accurate look as well....

Does the fabric-seller posted above send the fabric to europe? When I tried to order there was only an option for the US. Maybe someone of you guys knowes about that or has another address to recieve the fabric for the coat?
