Jack Sparrow Costume Build by Indy Magnoli

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

Just got my hat. Here it is on my wig stand (made from a wooden candlestick and dowel stained to match) with and without flash:

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

very nice! that has to be one of the best jack sparrow hats i've seen...most tend to be overly dramatic and rather large. yours looks perfect.

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

Wow you've just about nailed that wig and tricorn! :D I thought it looked a bit pale at first with the flash on but with it off it looks really good! You've done a great job with that, looking forward to seeing the rest of the costume :D

Anyone know what's going on with yordreem? his sites been down for the past few days.

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

I love these builds Indy! Your injenuity is stunning!

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

As if there is any chance you wont pull it off.

Great job, never could wrap my head around the intricacies of his costume. Too afraid to take it on.

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

Thanks! Here's a little teaser of my work in progress:

I am sure that you are all over picking up the details, but I thought I would throw in my two cents for the cut of the jacket. The sleeves are tapered; they fit a little snug at the shoulder, and at the elbow begin to widen out to the oversized cuff. Also, the back fits pretty tight. There is also a very short collar.
Those are my main gripes where all the other "accurate" Sparrow frocks fall flat on their faces.

The wig and hat look awesome, btw!

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

My upper sleeves will certainly be fitted, as will the back. About the collar, no lapel, right, just a small collar stand? I can barely see it in one of the shots, but not enough to worry about. Plus, with the shirt collar over the top, then the wig... it'll never really be seen.

Here's a teaser of the upper back so you can see the fit:

Thanks,
Magnoli

...and here is an updated teaser of the main "effects" on my mannequin (with a temporary place-holder shirt):

Sorry, it took me so long to respond to this but - yes that is totally accurate. Very short collar stand, no lapels, and it will never be seen because it will be covered up by the shirt collar.

But, as a community, we are here to get all the details accurate, right?:love

Reading this thread made me revisit Indy's Star Wars thread. I absolutely LOVE your speed builds, sir. Everything's looking great so far! Keep it rolling!

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

Just finished my beard braids last night. I went to the local bead place but couldn't find anything right. I ended up using a piece of red coral and turquoise (as used on my Raiders Headpiece chain) and grinding then down myself. The first braid came out a bit thin, so I made the second a little fatter. I noticed (in one shot at least) that Jack's braids aren't the same thickness, but the beads are swapped. Oh well... with all the superglue involved in making these, there's no changing out the beads now!

For the hair, I first cut some black hair from a wig I used for an Orc costume (see my LOTR speed build) but it was too dark (and too cheap looking) to match my real beard. So... I cut some of the dark brown hair from the back of my Yordreem wig... but that was a little too light. A mixture of the two seemed to be a good match so:

Still waiting on my shirt, waistcoat, frock and sword... with only 10 days to go.

Kind regards,
Indy

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

You are correct! One of Jack's beard braids is a bit thicker than the other.

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

about the buckle ( anna maria )
the little piece is a MADE UP piece, NO like cutting another buckle and put them together..

and your costume is coming along really well.!

If somebody want a anna maria buckle ( dmc / awe ) let me know Ive got about 30 of them. ( From the same shop the movie bought it )

What does that mean, MADE UP? And why wouldn't cutting up antoher buckle and putting them together work?

Who doesn't since word got out about where they are being sold and how utterly cheap they are!!? :)
My friend bought like 10 of them for around £35 and sent me one for £5 shipped......

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

I own a pair of the Caboot Sparrow boots but in chocolate seude...never thought about using pecards on them...lol. My right ankle seam busted though, one year into it.......kinda adds to the effect. my right bucket is slowly lowering itself and my left one is still standing tall, lol.

Can't wait to see you finished product. Most people's rushed costumes look hideous, although yours will be pretty spot on from the looks of it, which I expected nothing less.

Let me know how wearing all that gear goes. As a pirate myself (non sparrow), I find moving about and especially bending with all the gear on can be cumbersome. My belt has slowly become fairly heavy over the years....althought, I've done away with my baldric and now wear my sword on my belt..so that didn't help ..lol.

No, is a special part made for the buckle.

asap i found them i told everybody.
if you are talking about paul, hes selling them ( but not cheap)

BUT There is a misunderstood here: the cheaper ones are like the costume base but bigger ( same material as well .brassish colour.) the real ones ( from the real supplier are nickel colour.

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

Well, I don't think you posted it here, not that I've seen anyway. Don't know anyone named Paul that I'm aware.

I found out from a friend in the UK who just happened to visit the shop and see them. I didn't really get many of the particulars. He lives in Blyth, so I guess he found them there or nearby? He said they were about 4 GBP, less if you bought in bulk and then they were even cheaper.....He did say the guy at the shop told him they supplied that buckle to POTC, but you know, people can say anything??

Don't know if it's nickle color, but it's a pretty color, lots of details......

annamarie%20buckle.jpg

I guess I shouldn't have used the word cheap, which most often indicates poor or inferior quality, I meant rather how utterly inexpensive they are, because it looks to be of pretty good quality to my eyes..........and really utterly inexpensive compared to replicas on the bay going for between 35 and 60 USD.

ues i know what you mean .. to be honest they looks ok,
however as its a white metal casting its not recommenced for any heavy duty use

Re: Jack Sparrow Outfit by Feb 18th... !!!

Well, I like mine fine and do not believe it to be inferior. But if falls apart tomorrow, I'm not out much......

Oh, and sorry Indy for mucking up your thread with too much buckle talk!!
You're doing a bang up job on the costume. Can't wait to see it finished.
It's pretty much crunch time now!!
