2 Lone Survivor Uni. $23,239,000
3 The Nut Job ORF $20,550,000
4 Jack Ryan Par. $17,200,000

Well, I guess Jack Ryan was certainly a "shadow" in something.

Just saw this today. Great movie, especially for a reboot. Good plot, lots of action sequences, cool cinematography, great score, but had some poor acting, especially Kiera Knightley. While it didn't follow Clancy's storyline, it had a few references in it. Overall, great film and I would recommend anyone who likes spy films or thrillers to see this, even if you don't like reboots.

Was it supposed to be following a particular Clancy novel, or was it just touching on the background info on Ryan's life as established in the Ryanverse novels overall?

It was a completly new storyline. Had a few nods to the original, but they took the Jack Ryan story and modernized it. They included some of the main parts of his character story, but changed quite a lot. It actually fit quite well, considering how different it was.

I had pretty high hopes for this movie. To me... it was a letdown. It had no real life. It was cast very well... although I'm not a fan of Knightly all that much and I didn't think she brought anything to the movie... especially chemistry with Pine.

I thought, and I'll take a beating for this. Sum of all Fears was MUCH better. Affleck did a better job as Ryan in my opinion. No discredit to Pine. He's ok as an actor, but not mind blowing.

When it was over I turned to my wife and said "NOT Harrison Ford". It didn't have the pulse of a "real" Jack Ryan movie.

I wish they would stop trying to franchise this character and move on. Without Remorse for Godsake. The Clark character is so much more interesting in my opinion and they could totally run with a series of movies with him, going into Rainbow Six and maybe and tie it in with the Splinter Cell story and spawn some spin-offs from that.

Or move on to another author. Do Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp.

Clancy books have had been done well but it's time to move on since they can't seem to hold get enough momentum to create a franchise with a steady actor for more than 2 movies.
