Jace calling Space Ghost...

Being a huge Space Ghost fan, I made this little ditty with a little help from Philip (of Rebelscum.com fame), so a big 'thanks!' goes to him for putting up with me. :angel

It's about 2 3/8" wide by 3" tall by 3/16" thick. Just a static prop for now, but I'd like get the eyes to light up somehow... unfortunately I don't know squat about electronics. Anyhoo, enjoy!

Gotta love Space Ghost...especially when Brak is on the show!! lol Nicely done, my friend. The eyes lighting up would be very cool. I'm sure you could find a way to do it fairly easily

If you ever make more, let me know. I have a 4-year old daughter who is crazy about the show and I made her a badge that was simply a xerox pasted onto cardboard...but if you sell actual plastic or resin pins, keep me in the loop.

About lighting the eyes.

The easiest way would be placing a pressure sensitive button (MOM switch) on the back so that if you were wearing the badge and touched you hand to it (as they do in the show) you would be applying pressure to press the button. There woudl be a battery and LED light inside.
Presumably the button would have as wide a surface area as could fit without exceeding the dimensions of the piece for even depression and to allow it to lay flat against the wearers chest.

The more complex plan would entail managing to fit the inner workings of a cheap walkie talkie inside the badge so to could talk to each other, and have the light come on when sending or receiving. Someone has already done this with ST:TNG communicator badges.

I suspect canabalising a pair of those for this project would be regarded as a sacreliage by many, not to mention fairly expensive.

Neat prop! I loved that show as a kid in the 60's!

As far as making it comm-capable, there's really no need to put all the electronics inside the badge. Run speaker, mike and push-to-talk remotely to the badge and put the radio elsewhere out of sight. Probably could adapt an earbud with inline mike/PTT to make it work. That way, you're experimenting with the external wires, not the expensive radio.

You could always cut out that reflective tape for the eyes. It would glow in photos.

It's a trick from model kits.

Thanks for the kind words, glad to know there are other fans out there who can appreciate the little retro things. :D

As far as the electronics go, all of the suggestions above are very good ideas. But if I were to do a run of them, I think just keeping it simple would be the best bet, so getting the eyes to light up when pressed would suffice where cost and parts are concerned.

I also have the master for the chest emblem sitting on my bench, but I wanted to get the badge to a workable solution before I went any further with the larger emblem... if only I had studied electronics instead of art in school. :rolleyes
