JABBA'S SAIL BARGE 1/6 SCALE

I think it's high time I made another big prop and this time it's gonna be the mighty Hutt's sail barge, the Khetanna

I completely modelled the whole craft and generated SVG files to laser cut a lot of the smaller parts; the slotted windows. the panels. interior etc, and print some of the other parts like the cannons, deck boxes.
Everything else will be scratch built from wood, much the same way I did the 1/6 Falcon

Here's what I got so far; first thing to make on a boat...the Hull

Overall size at 1/6 scale comes out at just under 5 metres (16'), which means the ship they built on a hill, which they also built, in Utah was about 35 metres (100'). I suppose they were on a roll from episodes 4 and 5 and had the moola.

So, got the hull finished and primed, with the side panels on.

The blocks of wood are to mount the wheels to, for transport...the finished prop will be hung from chains
Next up, is flipping her over to start on the decks

Don't tease him mate, since he's a machine; he's capable of whipping that behemoth in no time

Ok got the decks on with all the panelling and started framing the hull for skinning

Well, since you're building this model on an island, you won't have any difficulties reaching the other side of the river

I do think, when it's finished, this thing could float but it would tip over without a deep, heavy keel

Ok got the boat skinned and ready for glass/filling/sanding...Also fitted the masts. Coming along...

OK got the handrails mostly attached...fiddly swines but nearly done, and the bodywork is finished

Ok so a bit more progress on the barge...started detailing the hull with the doors and windows;

It never occurred to me before but there is no obvious way for Jabba to get in or out of this ship?
