I don't know how it was made and have never seen it replicated.
What a good idea, it just goes to show that we haven't recreated the whole SW universe yet after all.
Watching that scene, it behaves like someone is standing behind the door and waving the pole around to create the movement. The 'lens' over the 'eye' seems to spring up, too.
I took a few screencaps which might help.

I think the outer ball shape with the finger-like projections might be a cork mold. They were used to trim the cork cores of vintage style sports balls to size.
My google search blew up after I read that..lol no luck.
Yeah bubble wrap. I like the whole thing. Somehow I'm draw to the props that every other person doesn't have sitting in there collection.
Bubble wrap with an orange (or yellow?) light behind it - I guess that would make sense. It would achieve that random light effect seen onscreen, as the light shines through the gaps in the bubble wrap.
If that's part of the female anatomy, it's the WORST case of thrush I've ever seen...!:lol
lol:lol
It´s LOTR design :confused
many details, generic basic shapes( from my point of view)
better back to topic...:lol
I love to see some good functional replicas of that thing in the futurethumbsup
ob1al: why do you have a vagina on fire as avatar?
sorry, I couldn´t resist - this is one point of a thousand, why I can´t watch the Jackson´s versions of the LOTR movies...:lol
