I've seperated the Jaw on my Vader reveal!! Progress pics and all.

Hi Guys,

I am starting up my very long project of my Darth Vader Reveal Project that has been on the go for at least 4 or 5 years now.
I was hoping someone here could advise me on the separation of the Jaw from the rest of the face?
I am obviously using a fiberglass cast and it is an old Portumac I got off him back when I started this.
Would a vibro saw used for taking off plaster casts be best or just a cutting tool on my dremell?

Mark.:thumbsup

Re: How do I seperate the Jaw on my Vader reveal?

Hi Mark

The obvious answer is "very carefully" :) I used my dremel which is perfectly adequate for the job.

However you do it, the divison's going to look ugly afterwards so you'll need to do some repair work, the best advice I can think of for doing that is to get some milliput on standby!

(I'll see if I have some photos from when I did this later..)

It would very interesting to know exactly how the original was done...

I remember a conversation I had about eight years back with someone from this board on this topic and the proposal was to use the top from one mask and the bottom from another. It makes sense if you have two to spare since that approach assures absolutely no loss of dimension, but I never tried it since I bought mine "off the shelf", and I have no idea how that one was done. The original may have been a one mask affair as well but who knows? That info, along with just about everything else on this prop, has yet to let itself be known.

That's not exactly what you wanted to hear is it...? :lol

Okay, didn't see your post...

Problem solved. Atleast you got that fear out of the way!

Your not wrong , it's taken me at least 4 years to pluck the courage to do this!!!!!:lol

Re: How do I seperate the Jaw on my Vader reveal?

Absolutely.
I've got alot of work ahead of me. But I'm really looking forward to it.
I've just won a load of stuff from Vader doctor on the bay for a small fortune. :(
But it looks the mugs nuts, all alluminium parts. For the outside of the face and the breathing stuff in the jaw. :)
Mark.

Bill does really nice work; nothing to deburr or clean up at all. The side locking clamps are especially well done. :thumbsup

As to the mask, it would be really nice for a lot of folks interested if someone could pick up on Onigiri's offer with his molds. It would make life easier for everyone who's had this on their wish list. :unsure

Re: I've seperated the Jaw on my Vader reveal!! pics and all.

Meaning?
I did myself?
Oh, meaning no disrespect. Have just never seen anyone do the ESB style reveal and was secretly hoping that this may go down that route. No worries... just me being silly. Can't wait to see what you do with it. :thumbsup

No offense taken.:)
An ESB reveal? Excuse my ignorance but I always thought my vader was a ROTJ? Does it resemble an ESB face? if so I guess it would be interesting.:thumbsup

Re: I've seperated the Jaw on my Vader reveal!! pics and all.

Well, basically... the Portumac IS more RotJ than ESB. But regardless, it'd be impossible to do an ESB now with the way the face got cut, so I'm not gonna bug you any more with my personal interest. :)

I take it the ESB would never have been separated?
Oh and you are never going to bug me :) I have much to learn master!!!

Re: I've seperated the Jaw on my Vader reveal!! pics and all.

Oh yes, it separated. Just not above the lower tusk tube... it neatly followed the upper tusk tube until at the tip, where it possibly angled straight back (I'm not 100% sure on that last detail, but surely more knowledgeable people would know).

And hmm... master? I dunno... :confused

Yeah and good pictures of the ESB would be the holy grail. I whish I would have good ones. When do we all begin doing the ESB reveal mask???!? Dammit another project I would be open to spend time in again....

Looking good!!! Well made cut!
