It's time. Defiant captain's chair. Car folks, got ideas?

I have started shopping for a Recaro car seat to make a full size Defiant Captain's chair.

Other than Ebay, anyone have any good ideas for finding a used Recaro seat for $300 or less? I would accept a pretty well used seat so long as the foam is still good. I have a guy willing to re-upholster it for me.

Hey Sulla, I don't think that the Defiant Cap seat is a Recaro seat. Below are some photos from the first ep with the defiant. If you look, you will see a head rest adjuster. I think that the defiant seat is a normal car seat, from what car, I don't know.

Oh also some at another forum get one of the defiant seats. If you look at it, it has a lot of elements found in a normal car seat.

Thanks Jose. I appreciate the advice. Those pix of the existing chair are great BTW. Very helpful. I am guessing the started life as one of the console chairs on the defiant bridge. Unless they were something before that.

I dunno, I've been looking at a lot of screen shots (hundreds if anyone wants some) I took of the defiant captain's chair, and compairing to auctions and sales, as well as taking the advice of guys like sector7g, and I am pretty sure it's a recaro seat.

Now, I could be wrong, and that's fine I have no solid comparative 100% evidence.

The images I posted were of a set of recaro BMW seats reupholstered in leather.

BTW, What's that chair base made from? Fiberglass maybe?

I think its Fiberglass. The large photos of the chairs are the same chairs used on the Captain's Seat. (Same Model).

Again look at the caps I posted. The seat has a head adjuster.(The nob and the left and right side of the chair.) I find it that they would add that to the chair. Also I have not seen any recaro with head adjuster.


I know for sure that the Enterprise-E chair was a recaro (The chair from the deleted scene and the new chair from Enterprise)

I think with the right research you can find the chair. I am trying to do that my self. I am looking over all car chairs from 1990-1994 and see if I find one that is a match for the chair.

Yeah, the 'old' captain's chair from ENT was also a Recaro chair. It was a recaro boat chair, I am pretty sure. Which is available from Amazon.com (or at least a very similar one) for just over $300 I think.

The 'new' ENT chair was a recaro chair too. One of the more race-style ones I think. I haven't watched the extra's on NEM in a while, not sure which chair was used.

I still think the Defiant captain's chair was a recaro, and if it wasn't, it's a darn good faximile. Perhaps they just switched out the headrest? The shape of the headrest (with or without the two seams running up the front of it) looks a lot like extant recaro seats/headrests I've been looking at lately. I need to keep looking through my caps, but I think later on, the headrest is shown sans adjustor knob. The Sao Paulo (I think) was the same way. Again, I need to check my screen caps again.

The station chairs at say, opps, or engineering look to be the same chair with the head rests removed, at first showing a smooth top (first ep. of season 3, DS9) but right after, they got those little thin purple pillows with the aluminum looking 'tabs' holding them down.

No it is a recaro chair, they resaddle them.

I saw the pictures on your forum, but it has no other info on the chair. Would you mind sharing the make and model on the chair you found?
I am sure everyone who has ever thought about making one of these Captain's chairs would appreciate it.
