It only took me 45 years.......to start collecting Models = Buck Rogers Star Fighter Page 2

I turned 53 today and decided to get serious about creating a Sci-Fi model collection that will be displayed on one wall of our arcade which gives us a display area of 17' x 2'

Our collection will include models from the classic 80's shows and the more recent movies

So far we have the following:
  • Howling Wolf 1/48 Chiggy von Richthofen Fighter built and painted by Lynn Barlow
  • Moebius Pre-finished 1/32 Cylon Raider (I need to find someone to distress it)
  • Alfred Wong 1/48 Hammerhead

I have been looking over the unassembled models I already have and I have to say that some of the designs from the 80s have really held up

Star wars is obvious but the ships from the original BSG and Buck Rogers could be in any current Sci-Fi franchise

It's probably going to take up to 2 years to get these display ready but I will enjoy the journey

Been building scifi model kits forever these are mostly old MPC kits from the 80's, the other 50% of my collection are studio scale

Very nice. Hopefully you don't need to take it apart.

I found out the hard way, with the FFG Blockade Runner. Sometimes they glue them way to tightly. Very difficult to get apart.

I got lucky with the Raider, when I was drilling a hole in the bottom for the display rod a large panel popped off clean

I'll be able to make a 1" access hole to add the resin and BBs :)

Very cool, and happy belated birthday!
Thanks

I decided to filled the Cylon Raider with Plaster of Paris

I think that might be the easiest way to achieve adding weight to my models

Buying a "pre-finished" model (Moebius offers this for a few of their models) seems to have been a wise decision

I have watched many assembly videos for this model and the black areas that have to be masked and painted always have edge bleed

However, the factory paint is near perfect, I just hope someone can distress this for me in just the right way.

BSG VIPER BUILD

Step 1 complete - I needed to complete the cockpit before sending this to the person that I commission to finish the build

I am filling my models with Plaster of Parris and it's a messy tricky process so I have to find builders that can work with filled subassemblies

These 3 and the Cylon Raider are the 4 models I want to concentrate on for the next 4 months

I have prepped the Viper to be shipped to Greece and the Starfighter is on hold until I receive the pilot for Canada

The Marauder will take the most time since I have to create an entire kit of detail parts for it which I am doing with the help of a friend that has a 3D resin printer
