So far, from the pics I've seen posted. There don't appear to be any original archives pics at c5 this year. Is this true? Dan

Sadly no archives gallery (really sorely missed), though anyone that came to the Original Props and Wardrobe Collecting Panel discussion got to see some great props (both in person and in our slideshows). In person we had the following screen used/original props:

Scout Trooper Helmet
Snow Speeder Pilot Helmet
Jabba's Guard blaster
ANH Stormtrooper rifle
Bossk's rifle
Scout Trooper Blaster
and a few other bits...

Special thanks to Propstore and the "movie prop kings" Jason and Darran White for bringing those to the show.

BTW, the McQuarrie gallery was INCREDIBLE. Just stunning to see all that new material!

best,
Tom

I know a lot of people said it at the show, but I feel it is worth saying here, LFL's involvement at CV was a real disappointment to me. They paid enormous money to bring massive replicas from Belgium... but couldn't muster up the funds to show us the real deal. It felt very lazy on their part, as if they decided to let the fans run the show and provide the entertainment instead of them putting on a celebration to thank the fans for 30 years of making Star Wars what it is today. I guess you can look at it from either way, but I was incredibly disappointed in the approach that was taken and that they couldn't even be bothered to bring a single original piece to the celebration. As one person aptly put it, this felt a bit more like a trade show than a celebration.

Not a single prop. I was truly aggravated in that it was half the reason I attended the convention. An official LFL SW Celebration without an official LFL prop anywhere in the house. Pretty big disappointment. :(

If anyone else has photos from the event (especially any close ups of the props), please post em up!

Art, I agree with you. I wish LFL would of ponied up to bring some of the real props. Heck they even left the X-wing at home. :thumbsdown

Really missed the LFL prop room myself as that has been one of the highlights for me at these shows.

Just one more pile on LFL, they have been using the 501st and fans increasingly more and more over the years, saving themselves MILLIONS of dollars in free talent, personnel and props.

I dont troop events for them hardly at all anymore.

I feel I need to correct something:

It was Reed Exp. who paid for all that
secondly, a lot of LFL stuff is already touring with other expositions.

Thanks for the clarification. I wish Reed would have paid for original pieces. The stuff from Beligum was cool but it isn't original.

And yes, a lot of LFL stuff is touring but 1) this is CELEBRATION, their main event and 2) it isn't like they couldn't have gone to archives and brought out some new cool ESB pieces for the 30th!

Who were in turn hired by LucasFilm for a handsome, handsome some to put on this convention.

I am not battling wits or strutting feathers, but having worked for a major corporation who puts on a yearly convention, all those shipping fees are charged to the client, ie LFL.

It would have been nice to have seen a little archive action.

No, that's not actually true.

Reed was contracted to produce the celebration and all costs for things like bringing items from the archives are borne by Reed. The cost to bring those pieces has risen dramatically as LFL now handles them like valuable museum pieces and the costs for that are very, very high and beyond the ability of a show like this to fund it.

Comparing what other companies my do to what LFL does is not a worthwhile effort as LFL doesn't really do anything like other companies, certainly not where it comes to spending money.

I too was unhappy no props were coming, but this was the same thing that happened at CJ, for the very same reason, so I wasn't so surprised.

As cool as it is to see archive props, my personal take is that more fans enjoyed the replicas than the number that would have enjoyed the actual props, purely because of the interaction component, and for less cost by far.
