Is there a larger BB-8 production toy/device than the Sphero?

Hello Friends,

I may have hallucinated this, but I'd swear I saw someone/company working up a BB-8 that was self-controlling that was about 3/4 the size of the real one that'd be for sale for about $400. Was I sniffing Tibanna again? :p

Please give me a shout out. If it exists, my son wants one badly!

Thanks
Ken

Target has the less expensive bigger one. Thanks for this link, I thought sphero and target were the only two.

"No, there is another"

Aww man, I saw this one at a con this weekend but I thought it was the crappy Disney one. Good to know this is a different one, might get it soon.

Safuran: Doesn't sound like it will be available until the fall based on the article.

Looking forward to it's release. Would love to have one rolling around the house :)

Tumbler: Ah, seems like the one I saw at the con was the Hasbro BB8, I wasn't aware that there were 3 versions (or 4 when this new one is being sold).

yeah I hope the body spins... putting a little wheel set at the bottom is CHEATING. :angry

The Target 80$ remote control one is useless. I would have rather bought the Disney static one which is bigger and cheaper.

Is this spinmaster bb8 coming out for force Friday or at a later date? Been excited for it since February but I haven't seen any info since, just coming out sometime fall 2016.

Not really what you were looking for, but here is a comparison of a few toys. The video is from before the movie came out.
He also made three versions of a life-size BB-8. His third version had nailed it how the real "Red Carpet" droid works.
Of course he was right at the front at the "Droids of TFA" panel at Celebration in London when the mechanism was revealed. :)

Does anyone know if the spinmaster BB8 is available?
I would be looking for a quite large BB8 type, not necessary lifesize, but quite big, stable, and easy to drive, for a star wars short movie project.
I would use it as the main camera view, so the design itself is not very important in a first time, then I will change color and design, so it won"t be a BB8, but using same technology in star wars univers.

I've been waiting for this spin master bb8 forever. I contacted spin master through Facebook they responded saying the hope to announce news soon about that adorable droid. My guess is probably spring/fall release leading up to episode 8 if they decided to release it it all.

Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't release it for the Christmas season this year considering they previewed it in February. Looking forward to it as it would really be a great addition to our 501st booth.

I saw two items matching the description.
I don't know if the spinmaster size of 49cm includes antella or not, if so, both are same size (44cm without antenna)

and here a video review:

The second one, I saw on "fnac"

what makes me doubt is the infrared remote, probably no way to modify the sensors, I would prefer a wifi device or so.
Another thing is the battery and off button access, would probably have to make podifications adding some lithium batteries and a charge port with quick access panel.

Does anybody know if there are some kits for BB8, especialy some core and remote, so it would be easier for me to make a custom droid?!

That one is made my thinkway toys. Very similar to the thinkway r2 d2. Looks like a U.K. only release from what I've seen. Moves like the hasbro bb8.

It's a shame that toy manufacturers are so hooked on apps/ in accessible rechargeable batteries with their toys. On average, toy apps are only supported for a matter of six years. Naturally, with the app no longer being supported, the toy loses some functionality. Battery replacement is also an issue. Take SpinMaster's BB8 for instance. There are rechargeable batteries in the head and body.

The head requires a three-point small screwdriver. That is to say, the head of the screwdriver is triangular in shape. As far the body, the screws are hidden and require removal of glued side panels. Once opened, you have to remove the mechanism, and disassemble part of it just to access the six-battery pack. Luckily, there are tutorials on YouTube.

What was SpinMaster thinking? That this would be a throw away toy? I spent $239.00 on this droid; I'd be darn to throw it in the trash when the batteries no longer accepted a charge. Aren't our landfills crowded enough?

This is my project for 09/2023. I have already dismantled my BB8 and am waiting for the batteries to arrive from China. I grew tired of my BB8 Unit sitting on a shelf. An oversized paper weight, if you will.
