Ironpool: first Pepakura/non-Star Wars project

Hi, RPF! My name's Jim, and I'm über excited to be here. :D
As the thread title indicates, this is my first Pepakura project/non-Star Wars project. I've been building custom Mandalorian costumes out of metal and plastic for the past three years now, and I think it's definitely time for me to branch out into other genres of costuming.

I know many people start right off the bat with movie/comic accurate costumes, but I've been under the mindset of do something custom first, so you can get a feel for what you're doing. Hopefully this will help me out as I go along with future projects I have planned out.

Now, as I've said, this is my first time working with Pepakura. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing with this, but I've got a few friends here in FL that will be able to help me out. I know that I'll need a couple of downloadable programs, but I really don't know what all else I need/will need to do. :confused

The basic plan for the suit is a Mark 3 suit, with slight modifications to make it more Deadpool-y (rotary gun mounted on one of the gauntlets, big, obvious missiles mounted on the back, and a light-up/"working"* flamethrower, to name a few things). The armor itself will be fiberglassed card stock/paper.
I've tracked down the file I'm planning on using, and will hopefully be printing it off over the weekend.

The basic concept is a photoshopped image I found on the internet, and the Pep file if from a Mr. Robo3687, a resident RPF member.

Apologies for the place-holder thread... I'm just really stupidly excited to get started on this. :cool I'll be updating the thread as I get progress.

(* by "working", I simply meant that that there would be red and orange LED lights, hooked up to a a fog machine, ala this guy; Mandalorian Merc Jetpack Test - YouTube )

Well, guess I'm not going to be the first Ironpool... :lol
Any idea who he is? I'd love to chat with the guy.

You may be the first full Ironpool though. This one is only ironman from the mid torso up and all Deadpool from the mid torso down. Still looks sick though.

Not much of an update here... But I recently purchased a cheap 2-piece IM bucket, and I'll be modding it for more painting/fiberglassing practice.

Anybody know of a good converter program for Pepakura on an Apple laptop? I've looked around a little bit, but there's so much out there.

Omg an update!! :cool

I had a friend of mine print out the MK5 file made by Syrus (?). The cutting is going slow, but I'm nearly done with the chest plate. Hopefully I'll be able to get it assembled and 'glassed for Halloween, if it fits properly.

The helmet file printed out... Wrong? I guess that's the right word for it. :confused So I just decided to buy a resin cast bucket.
The MK42 made by Impact Props really grabbed my attention, and with a price tag of $100, it would've been stupid not to buy it.

I haven't received it yet, but the minute it gets in I'll update this thread again.

Quick question for you completed Iron Man costumers, though... How do you do the eye lights? I've seen how one guy did his, but it looks like it would seriously inhibit visibility. Any suggestions?

Holy crap, two months without an update...

WELL! I got the MK42 bucket from Impact Props, and I'm really dissatisfied with it. It's extremely small, extremely asymmetrical, and very poorly cast. I don't plan on doing anything with it, so if anybody wants a project bucket at an extreme discount, hit me up.

I've gotten in touch with IM Nation about commissioning a full foam suit; I don't have the time or patience to cut out, glue together, and fiberglassing an entire kit. Buying a pre-made suit will be a much quicker, albeit more expensive, option.
I'll probably be sorting out my soft parts before I get the suit actually ordered, so I'll be updating again in a week or so.
