Re: Don Robert's IRONMAN 10.10.10

I was looking for the before & after thread but anyways...i'll just post it here.

DR IM MkIV - December 2009

DR IM MkIV - October 2010

All parts had major improvements:

1. helmet
2. gloves - fully covered already
3. under arms - added details
4. reactor - hehe.
5. chest - rounder
6. shoulder
7. legs
8. thighs
9. cod piece
10. shoes
11.abs

more details had been added. There are lesser visible undersuit parts that can be seen like within the elbows and knee parts. He also made his own reactor by coiling copper wires to make it look like the authentic ones.

even the paint job was improved. They added a bit of weathering to make it a bit "used". (Even the face has improved. WAHAHAHA! )

It's not fiberglass. Not yet. We'll be getting there after a few more tests and configurations.lol.

I'll post progress pics when i get them. Sorry if this thread is the other way around...

Re: Don Robert's IRONMAN 10.10.10

i didn't think it could get much better than the first suit. That was mindblowing when it debuted on here, but v2 is SO good! I love the undersuit detailing in the first picture underneath the armpit.

Beautiful work as always

Thanks Bimmer. Glad you liked it. ;)

Re: Don Robert's IRONMAN 10.10.10

Still awesome you guys!! I still can't believe how streamline you were able to make the armor look. Its alot more form fitting compared to many of the builds I've seen! Can't wait to see your next project!!

Re: Don Robert's IRONMAN 10.10.10

He just gets better with every build! Wasn't he planning a Mark V? I know he could make one amazing looking suitcase suit!

Can you PLEASE share with us what he primes it with? I would assume it is something flexible, but I know we never got a definitive answer. It looks so smooth and shiny! Also if he has any progress pics of this helmet, would you post them? It is his best helmet yet!

DarthVeach, thank you for the support. Yup, he is planning a Mark V and he plans to launch it by Christmas. :rolleyes He got to buy a MKV toy so it would be more inspiring for him to do the costume.

I haven't got the picture of the primer...SO SORRY! Hopefully I can get a picture of it and post it here. What I heard him telling someone who once asked him he coats it with acrylic emulsion first (it's a white substance thingy...haven't seen it in actual yet) then he puts epoxy primer on it (some kind of a bondo kind of stuff...haven't seen it in actual either - sorry because i'm at work and when i get to visit him its already done ). After the epoxy primer he then sands it to make it smooth.

I really want to make video clips of him while working but my time schedule doesn't really permit me. maybe during the holidays. We will try.

:love :thumbsup

:love kim...sweet huh? wait till you get yours.:rolleyes

Re: Don Robert's IRONMAN 10.10.10 (not fiberglass...it's rubber!)

LOVE the progress pics!

I am betting the white acrylic emulsion is what we in the U.S. call Gesso. It is an acrylic primer that you can put on lots of different materials and sand it smooth and it remains flexible. i am still unsure what the epoxy might be unless he is using some kind of spray similar to Plasti-Dip here in the states.

Can't wait for the Mark V!

The suits are pretty tight. I really like the black one

I really like how you guys tackled the underarm internal parts. Good going!

Don't worry. It's just background music. ;)

Re: Don Robert's IRONMAN 10.10.10 (not fiberglass...it's rubber!)

it's amazing how solid the suit looks but it's made of rubber so it flexes with him.

so cool. I still can't get over it
