Ironman recast please avoid this seller

Well guys i think this thread is great in the fact it allows Newer Unsuspecting member's to understand the need to be more vigilant when sourcing Props to buy.

I must admit i had no idea about Sideshow collectable product's, sure i'd heard of them but it never interested me in buying something already completed, i prefer the self build prop's.

Im still Mortified by all this here is the e-mail conversation i have had with the seller.

Hi

no,its cast from a thai sculpt.

Can you tell me if this is a cast off the sideshow collectable piece as it looks very similar

Si

Well having read the post's above im intriqued enough now to want to know what this Thai sculpt is.

Anyone know of any Thai Recast's of the Side show stuff

Well that clears everything up, The Thai people never recast or makes copy's of expensive brand. Just look at the Rolexx clock and Diessels jeans that i got when i was on vacation...Pure original brands. Same goes with stuff from China,

Sounds like either your seller is lying, or got duped too. They may be a victim in all of this as well. Have you shown them the uncovered evidence (your bust and the Sideshow bust) to see what they say?

That's a good point boogey - I once sold a guitar amp and when the buyer went to get a warranty repair he (and I) found out it was stolen from the manufacturer's own stock. I had no idea; I had bought it from a guitar shop as new!

That said, the seller's curt response sounds pretty fishy.

My take? Unlikely. He sold an unpainted cast, which means he probably cast it himself or got it from a partner since if he just bought it from someone, why didn't he do anything with it before selling it again? Just in the prop flipping business? Possible, but not the most likely situation. If he has the experience to cast, he's probably familiar with the prop world (I've never cast anything and a casual viewing made it pretty clear that it was a Sideshow; someone with more experience would surely know).

Furthermore, his response was very certain. If he had taken but a moment to compare his cast to a Sideshow after Si mentioned the possibility, he'd see stark similarities and start to wonder himself if he had also been duped. But instead, he's confident that it's from some ambiguous Thai sculpt with no potential for tracking down the artist. That's just illogical. I think he knows exactly what it is.

Hi all, I have seen these o eBay, if it's the same seller, then he is a re-caster.

You can also buy a complete re-cast kit from thailand so I suspect that he bought the re- cast Thai kit and then re-cast that himself.

Not much you can do with it now si apart from outing the guy so the rest of the newer members have a chance to avoid him

Simon is he selling other prop pieces on this site of his ?
If there are more suspect items on his site for sale the possibility of him being an innocent and niave trader would look extremely unlikely.

thereare loads of Iron Man, Terminator and Predator Pieces, this isn't just a one off.
ive found out he has a facebook page where he openly sell's and is a Hunter's Lair member.

Although i'm not entirely happy with hosting his website details, Art has said that in this instance it is ok.

Please i ask don't by from this guy, if one item is a recast and not a very good one to be honest then you can bet everything else is

No mate your mistaken, i do have modeling skill's and i know exactly what a raw cast is,

im just very very concerned what this piece is and what it's lineage is. You said earlier it was from a Thai cast yet you don't buy from Thailand !!

so i will tell you what i think this is, You have either Re-cast the Sideshows Collectable Bust (poorly i might add) there are so many pointers that tell me this is a Sideshow Collectable, as they do their bust's a certain way, or You are re-casting a recast of a Sideshow Collectable which would then explain better why these cast's are warped in place's and very weak and thin in other's.

Unfortunately you have sold to someone in the know, granted i should have done a bit more homework on this particular piece but this recast issue has been confirmed by other more knowledgable people than me too, so unfortunately i am left with no choice but to persue this to higher authorities what you are doing is wrong. i'm 100% certain that Sideshow themselves would be interested in talking to you.

i dont buy them from thailand,i really dont get what the problem is for the cheap price you paid, its just a bust mate,i said it was a raw cast and needed work,i always spent a couple of hours with some quick drying filler and a dremmel to get it nice, paint it up and they look awsome.you have obviously never bought a raw cast before and have no modelling skills.when you buy a raw cast it means its strait from the mould and you do have to put time and effort in to get it looking anything near display quallity.

Dont waste your time replying , you wont get any thing but excuses and jargon from this guy ,
Youve informed the masses, may as well right it off as bad experiance ,
why not sell it to that "idiot" who asked to buy it and be done with it , the truth is ebay (Im asuming you got it from there?) is made up of recasters so in retrospect it no suprise it was recast

He didn't even acknowledge your accusation of it being a recast of the Sideshow bust. That proves to me that he already knows.

Very defensive, good sign of a guilty conscience. Horrible run-on sentences too.

What this line tells me is that because of the "cheap price," you should OVERLOOK its origins, or recasting origins. It's a typical recaster excuse: Recast to pass down the discounts to the masses.

I'm surprised recasting such obvious Iron Man bust hasn't gotten him in hot water, yet. I've seen these, on ebay, for a long time, now.

now this is very interesting ive recieved another mail more of that in a minute.

fisrtly to answer a post above i didnt actually buy this off ebay i went direct to his site which is full of Ironman stuff

ok so i recieved this email and threat today

if this is a recast from sideshows then i knew nothing of it,the cast i got i thought was an original sculpt.i have read your posts on rpf and make no mistake mate, you have made a grave mistake by posting my name and details on there and you are going to be very sory you did.

So Michael if you are a member here please come along and explain why someone who is obviously in the know in this industry of prop making, actually makes and sell's recast's. i for one minute don't believe that you didnt know this was a side show bust

i am here and waiting for your reply, as for your threat i believe you have my address.

I absolutely love it when they say things like "you'll be sorry you posted my name" and the like. Let's see, I dunno about the UK but in the US if it isn't a complete fabrication about someone then it isn't a legal issue like libel or slander. That leaves the only other option, this guy is all butt-hurt and is trying to actually threaten you with personal violence, in print no less... Lovely evidence for an assault charge, there, mate, but I doubt supa or any other UK members would deny you the fun of seeing how the 'youll be sorry' actually plays out. Heh.

oh i have better emails than that mate, apparently i have a heavey mob due to visit and im going to be sorry i was ever born :rolleyes

Where was this loser based? Id guess with the prices of fuel in the UK of late, it may well cost him the funds of said recast piece if he brings a "really heavy mob" :lol.

lee

I think you should post the threatening emails, It only helps to enlighten us to the type of person he is.
Funny enough I reckon if he'd left it alone he could have considered it a bit of free advertising but he's spoilt it now :rolleyes
