Ironman Mark VI - Foam - Australia - First time build

The suit is looking good mate. I've got most of my fibreglass pep iron man helmet done now and cut it into the 3 pieces the other day. Still more sanding, body filler and primer to go before painting but I'm pleased with how it's looking.

Rowdy: Looking good man!

Lance: Thanks dude, means a lot.

Just cut out the leg stencils today.... SO MANY PARTS!!

Just a quick post to show what I've had the chance to complete (inbetween studying!!);
I've completed the COD and neck. I always wondered why the neck wasn't completely joined at the sides? I might add in my own custom joins...

I'll post more detailed pictures when I get the chance. I'll be tackling the thighs next, they look like a BIG job. I've got about 1 week before comic con...

Paradox: Thanks man, fortunately/ unfortunately the gf is going away for the week. Time to enter hardware mode!

Venator: I'm going on the Sunday, yourself?

Rowdy: To be honest I was thinking of simply putting a triangle piece of 'mysty' plastic where the arc reactor is and putting a light behind it. Looked at reference pics I notice that when the arc reactor is on you can't actally see it's details.

Hey guys what tape are you using to hold your foam pieces together? I've tried a couple masking tapes and they damage the foam when they peel off (glue to strong I think) I see the American builders using the blue tape haven't tried it yet might grab some from Bunnings this afternoon.

When you hot glue taping one side to stop hot glue squeezing through, I've seen a few builders doing it for nice joins, thought you might have been trying it as well with such good lines on your pieces.

That's a pretty good idea!

Well I spent all day trying to get the thighs done. I got 1 done and 3/4 of the other, then my hot glue gun BLEW UP! Sparks and a puff of smoke :( I had to go out this morning and buy a new one.

Also, the painting process has begun! I'm a bit scared this could destroy all my hard work :S

Venator: Nawwwww, yeah I'll def post pics.

Finished the faceplate of the helmet tonight. Used the 3mm EVA foam from eBay that everyone suggest (can't remember it's name). This was my first time using it and OH MAN! I wish I had of built the whole thing from the same kind of foam. It's more dense than what I've been using and much easier to get better cuts and details with!

Wel I freaked out for a sec there because I ran out of foam, went to buy more and Kmart was all out! I then checked a different suburb and they were out! Finally found some 30min drive away haha

Haven't had much luck with paint. I tried looking for Dupi-colour Dark Cherry Metallic like Indiefilmgeek suggested but to no avail. I've settled with, an expensive :(, alternative that is as close as possible. It's either that or a bright red....

just found this thread and its a great read. i hope you get done in time for sunday man! i cant go this year, mates wedding this weekend.
god i wanna build a ironman suit now!
thumbs up from a fellow aussie (vic)

Looking great man. I'm a little nervous about the thigh part, as I've heard it's the hardest part to build. It's next on my list. :unsure
