Ironman Mark VI - Foam - Australia - First time build

Glue stick? Lol. Ah ok. Just looking at how to attach straps to my Cap shield so I was wondering what you were using.

Beejay: That's the plan man! If you see me don't hesitate to come up and say Hi!

Forearms are complete. They've got some little mistakes but I hope to fill those gaps in during the painting progress.

As you can see I just had the 'Chicago' screw going through the foam. This seemed very weak and vulnerable so I was going to have to change it! I saw something Demolition had done http://www.therpf.com/f24/my-ironman-mark-6-foam-build-update-127360/ and I liked it, so I replicated. I found some super hard cardboard (the covers of a notebook) So dense I needed to use chicken bone scissors to cut it and a drill to put a hole in it!

I made the hinge connection 3 pieces thick.

I'll have to fill in the old holes.

The COD and Neck pieces are next. OH! and my Plasti Dip arrived today!

Loving the build! Time to start my own, what files did you use (hint: link them in your thread for a fellow Aussie :p)

Cheers I might have a spare moment this weekend while waiting for my Tron Disc Wars helmet to harden up after some liberal fibreglassing to make a start on a piece of this, I love your work the photos look good, you should time how long it takes you tp build to get an idea for future builds.

hey man looks like your doing well on your build. Just finishing mine up now, all i need to do is paint. Look out for me at comic con to :D

Cool build...Im looking to start my 1st build soon. On these files were there little bits of stuff that weren't on the pages you printed??

Rinzler: Thanks man, yeah I should have tracked the hours. I'd say at least 100 in the end.

RJ: that's awesome dude! I will keep my eye out for you, we can get some pics together!
p.s. I'll be there on the Sunday.

Paradox: Thanks! I've got about 2 weeks, but I have uni exams next week. So it's more like 1 week, to do the legs, helmet, arc reactor and paint. Should be.... ok I hope. haha I'll get it done! Even if I have to pull some all nighters!

Rusty: Thanks man, yeah some little things were missing eg for the neck, the part that joins the back of the neck to the front (it's a zig zaggy part) isn't included in the pep. Also the forearms don't have a part between the wrist part and elbow area, there's a bit of a hole. I've seen some people fill this with putty, I'll probably make a custom part from foam.

Does anyone know any good palm light tutorials or forum posts? Or anything to do with cutting the helmet and using magnets so I can open it?
Thanks for all your support and help guys.

Madrick your stuff blows me away! even before it's primed and painted it looks badass!! I see you've got two different layers of foam in there... is this to made it thick & sturdy and help with and 'oh shxt, which way round does this piece go' issues - or some thing else? I've seen a few of the foam suits done like this...

I've never used a pep file for costuming and foam just looks so much nicer to use than paper/resin/bondo/etc etc (everything on here is incredible though, I'm just very limited on space for building and ventilation

Did you use the foam modded Sharkman files for the helmet I was going to start it last night and when I went to print I noticed some of the lines just didn't stop they just ended, that was on the top back piece (page 1).

Rob, I think that that is just a two toned colour foam. I bought the same mats from Kmart here in Aus and it's a foam camping mat that is one piece but just has two different colours, I guess so you can tell which side to put on the ground or something. Madrick, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, I remember seeing a thread somewhere in here about cheap repulsor lights...If I can find a link I'll put it in here. I haven't see anything about magnets for the faceplate yet, but if I see anything I'll chuck it in here as well.

EDIT: http://www.therpf.com/f24/mark-vi-arc-reactor-mark-vi-build-128856/

That might help. It isn't the one I was looking for, but a quick search gave me that.

Also this thread is amazing: http://www.therpf.com/f24/xrobots-iron-man-mk6-updated-dollar-store-99456/index11.html

Info for arc reactor etc from page 9 onwards.

It's dual density foam. The grey half is denser than the blue green half

Rinzler: I haven't built the helmet yet but I've got stealths modded files. Anything I should know?

RoblightOHYEAHHHHH: Thanks for the compliment, means a lot. As paradox and tychan mentioned, the foam just comes in two densities (which I was only made aware of after reading the post lol).

Paradox: Thanks for the links to those other threads! Will check them out and post what I come up with on here.

I am just a bit unsure as when I printed it looked like it didn't completely print the lines completely, will be be trial-n-error mucking about with some foam over the next week.

I found printing the peps out WITHOUT the edge ID stopped some of the lines from disappearing. Is that what you mean?

I'll try that madrick thanks for info (ran out of time to try it though back to uni tomorrow and working on top of it 12 days straight :S)
