    Hi everyone

Been wanting to build an ARC REACTOR for our soon to be made suit and wanted this version...

Most Arc Reactor I've seen here is Mark 1 and Mark VI version... I wonder if someone already made the above photo version:confused...

I have only few reference photos on this and will really appreciate additional photo reference from anyone who would like to share...

Thanks in advance and we'll start building this baby soon...;):thumbsup

    cheers!

Re: Ironman 2 MKIV Arc Reactor - New Project!

If your wanting something that will be accurate for the suit (guessing a mark3or4 suit) you would want a unibeam not an arc reactor. You only see the unibeam when he is in suit, the arc is behind it. ;)

Pretty sure the unibeam looks like a bright white light, lol... but then again I am not sure.

Is it just me or does that version of the reactor look like it has a lot less going on inside it than seen in the first film??

As I said that is all I have at the moment, lost all my pics in a HD crash a few weeks back. If you look you'll find lots more, it's very detailed piece and would be super hard to get accurate at all.

Re: Ironman 2 ARC REACTOR - New Project!

    UPDATES

We proceeded on making this Arc Reactor... then make the Unibeam later... besides, its the arc reactor that powers the unibeam...lol:lol

Anyway, we haven't seen much reference of this type of arc reactor nor any member made one...

So on to the drawing board and made a good old-fashioned sketches for dimensional references...;)
Since I really dont have more detail references on this, I just let my imagination/creativity kicks in...:D:thumbsup

    Then proceeded to parts preparation...

I got a plumbing material from a local hardware store...
And put some details on it...:love:thumbsup
    [IMG]

This one comes from, I think a speaker cover just laying around the shop...

Then I got the lens from a Flashlight...

    A lid of a can...

Cut me a 6mm thick clear acrylic tube/pipe...
Frosted the surface by wet sanding it using fine grit sand paper...
    A small flashlight reflector...
    Put it all together...

Not much of an accomplishment, but its getting there... Looks quite good already...:love:thumbsup
    [IMG]

Now to proceed on the rest of the parts...

Hope to have a pretty good accuracy on this build:confused... so if there's anyone who has high def reference photos of this type of arc reactor, kindly share it to us... we'll appreciate it so much...:):thumbsup

comments and suggestions are highly appreciated...

thanks for watching and for your time...

Dude. I'm quite sure (in fact 100% sure) that the unibeam refers to the repulsor beam he blasts from his chest. What's on his suit there is still the reactor, just covered up and with it's power being diverted into the suit by the mechanisms that you showed some pictures of.

Re: Ironman 2 ARC REACTOR WIP - SOME PARTS PREPARED!!!

I found another photo reference for this arc reactor...

So from this photo I proceeded to make the rest of the parts... and assemble it...:):thumbsup
    [IMG]
This is the best effort we can do so far...
All were hand-crafted... no machining involved...
I'm still thinking if I have to paint the light gray part and make it metallic dark gray color... or leave it as it is... please help me decide guys... kindly let me know what you think...

I still need to tweak it some more to get a good movie likeness (accuracy rating)... then will proceed with the lightings...

A single super bright LED will be installed powered by watch batteries 3x1.5V...

Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated...

Thanks for watching and for your time...:):thumbsup

    cheers!

Re: Ironman 2 ARC REACTOR WIP - COMPLETE PARTS ASSEMBLED!!!

    LET THERE BE LIGHT!

Today I installed quite a number of different LED set-up...
Tested each set-up until I find the light effects I am aiming for...
After finally chosen the best result, I applied it to our semi-finished arc reactor...
    With the room lights ON...
    With the room lights OFF...
Only one thing missing... RD's chest... lol:lol
    [IMG]

I'm quite satisfied with the result... though my ever-perfectionist younger brother haven't checked it yet...:unsure

Next I'll be improving the color, from light gray to gun metal color...

Also, switch will be installed internally so no switch will be visible outside... it will just be a twisting action to turn ON/Off the arc reactor...

Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated...

Thanks for watching and for your time...:):thumbsup

    cheers!

Re: Ironman 2 ARC REACTOR WIP - DUAL POWER SUPPLY!!!

    UPDATES

Just finished installing the internal switch... ON/OFF by just slightly rotating (CW/CCW) the back plate of the arc reactor...
No visible switch outside the arc reactor...

I haven't told anyone about this... but the plan from the beginning is to make it DUAL POWER SUPPLIED...

The big super bright LED that I installed easily drains the power of the watch batteries... Only recommended for sporadic lighting and not for long time continuous lighting...

So on with the provision of outside power source...

Started making a square hole on the aluminum alloy casing...
We'll be using this small connectors... sorry for the poor pics resolution...
    The connector fit snuggly...:love:thumbsup
    [IMG]

From below pics you can see that the arc reactor is turned ON... getting its power from the watch batteries... the watch batteries are quite low on power now...
    Arc reactor turned OFF...
Battery pack will supply 4.5V (3AAA x 1.5V) to the arc reactor...
    Male/Female connectors...
Outside power supply plugged in... (be sure that the arc reactor is turned OFF)...
The lighting ON/OFF of the arc reactor will now be done on the switch built-in to the battery pack...
    Lights turned ON...
Managed to capture a blueish color ligth effects...
Battery pack unplugged... you will notice that the power supplied by the watch batteries are now low...
Battery pack online... Notice the bright glow provided by the fresh batteries in the battery pack...

This baby is almost finished... I'm just waiting for the paint (gun-metal color) I asked my brother to buy...

Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated...

Thanks for watching and for your time...:):thumbsup

    cheers!

Re: Ironman 2 Wearable Arc Reactor WIP - HIGHER LUMINANCE

Ok... the EVER-PERFECTIONIST younger brother of mine did it again...:(

He pointed out that the light is not bright enough...:behave

So I changed the whole lighting circuit... from using only 1 super bright LED powered by 3 x 1.5V watch batteries to 9 super bright LED powered by 2 x 3V coin batteries...:eek... Outside power supply is still 3 x 1.5V AAA batteries.

Also added details to achieve a good movie likeness...
Added small metallic bar on both side of each coil/winding...
Painted the part that holds the coil/winding...
    Polished the aluminum alloy casing...
Made some modification on the bottom of the 2nd circle to make an illusion of segmented parts when the light is turned ON...
You will notice the light has good brightness/luminance even the room light is ON...:love:thumbsup
    [IMG]
Room light is OFF... you will see the illusion I'm referring to as you look closely to the side of the 1st circle... the light that reflects to it makes it look segmented... similar to the movie props...
Good brightness even room light is ON...
It is way brighter than the 1st lighting circuit I made...

With the changes made, the perfectionist younger brother is now satisfied...:love:thumbsup

This baby is almost done... just needed a bit refining and personal touch-up... then on with the run...;)

Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated...

Thanks for watching and for your time... cheers!

Re: Ironman 2 Wearable Arc Reactor WIP - BRIGHTER LIGHT!!!

Yeah, it looks much better now that you changed the number of LEDs. Are you using 5050 SMD LEDs like I am in my arc reactor or something else? What size resistor did you use?
