Iron Man/War Machine EASY hand files

I just thought I would share the hand that I created.
I have yet to make the fingers.
This was my first attempt, it was slightly too small so I added an extra piece to go round the thumb in order for my hand to fit, then added another piece to cover the thumb a little more...

Nice Tom9984 ! But how does adding a piece makes it fit better if it's too small ? Did you mean too big ?
Anyway, got to play with mine today, and I must thank you again J0wE, because this is pretty sweet and easy ! I even taped the electroluminescent repulsor, I just couldn't resist :

I'm really pleased with how this looks, especially with the repulsor.
One thing though : it fits good but quite tight. I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing, I'm gonna wait to get my underglove and try again before I decide if I redo it bigger or if I go with it and make the other hand. Now I'll focus on the fingers, still wondering if I should 3D print them, despite the cost or do them myself, but I find the 2mm foam still to thick for that use, and cardboard too thin... Ideally I'd want something around 1or 2 mm thick, but I don't see what I could use, and my foam supplier doesn't have foam under 3mm...
One last pic for the road, but more on my dedicated IM thread.

My hand was too big for the glove so rather than rescale and start again I added a piece in around the outside of the thumb to make the glove wider so my hand can get in it!!

I also have repulsor lights, need to add them to the glove but I think these are perfect for this! Only about 4mm thick!...

Where do you get these from? What are they called?

Wow that's amazing. Just found them. A search on the uk version of eBay for: "g4 24 smd" brings up hundreds of options.

Hi Jowe, thanks alot for these files, they are super handy. I spent a little time working on putting them together and came up with a couple tweaks that I thought made them easier, and fit me better :)

First, the need to "eyeball" the overlaps and detail placement on the palm bugged me, so I printed an extra template page and made a layout template that I traced onto the palms.

During the template creation I also removed some of the areas from the palm detail plates that I was having to trim anyway (they're the shaded sections in the template pic), this helped to keep the hands more symetrical (and appealed to the perfectionist in me).

Second, I found it alot easier to assemble the hands by heat forming the palm, knuckles, and back of hand a bit before gluing, it kept the joints from being under as much stress and helped them stay tight.

Then I finished off the hand by lightly heat-forming the hands while wearing them over a heat resistant glove, and tacked down any loose corners with brush-applied Krazy Glue.

They came out sweet, and it only took me 2.5 hours from start to finish, way better than other hand files I've tried to foam build. Thanks again for it!

There's enough room left in the palm for repulsor lights, I just need to find a good way to activate them. I picked up a couple 9-led flashlights I'm hoping to gut, since the tag on them says 10000 hour battery life, I thought that would be cool, maybe try and stick the batteries under the handplates?

Well, the iron man costume gloves work not too bad as undergloves :

It's a bit big, but that can be fixed easily. I think that when the gloves will be painted and the fingers added, it will do.

So, I assume that the 3 MM foam is the best option, and the gloves you used, do they seem to work better than the build up construction of the foam fingers? or would you for convention purposes recommend the build up instead? Just wondering which is the most versatile and which it the most moveable. Thanks, calibr1735:thumbsup

Yeah 3mm is the way to go here, but the gloves are really just there to cover the skin where there is no armor, I will add armored fingers. But if you are looking for mobility only, you could use thinner foam so there is not a gap of thickness between the foam and the glove. One thing though, it's a silk like material, not vinyl, so it's a bit off to pass as solid armor, like vinyl could eventually.

I think maybe using flexible pipe would of been better, I'm looking into that so don't have no proof. Looks well however. For the record I'm using 2mm foam

I guess 1mm more or less doesn't really matter, and you are probably right about the tubing, it would look better, but sewing is something I cannot do unfortunately... If I stumble across the perfect material one day, I'd maybe think about it and find somebody who can sew, but in the meantime I'd stick with my gloves I paid twice the price because of shipping :D

I didnt mean to come across all off. Sorry man. Foam thicknesses I'm the UK are slightly different. Until I find the perfect materials for the hand personally I'll shut my mouth! Haha

Can someone please explain how to make the led's with the gloves?

There's a couple of ways.
You could get on eBay and buy a couple of el sheets that you can cut to shape which are like 0.5mm thick.
You could opt for the led that I have which I posted a pic a couple of posts ago and link these to a 9v battery pack.
Are you wanting them to be constantly on or just activate when you pull your hand back like the repulsor?

Well I don't really want em on the whole time, I'd rather have an on and off switch since that might be a lil easier. I'll come back after I have time to finish my gloves :)
