Hello everyone,

I'm very new to this site and to cosplay I just discovers it about 2 months.but I'm building an iron man suit out of the rubber maid trash cans and I'm going to free hand my work.if you guys have any tip or advice that can help me that would be great like I said I'm very new to this.a couple of my biggest ?s would be is how do I measure the parts out after I measure my body like how not to get the individual parts the right size and what's best thing to use when I draw my parts out.im planning on drawing my parts out on to card board first and then when i got how I want the parts to look then I'll transfer them onto the plastic.so if you guys could help me out that would be great.i used pepakura for foam but didn't turn out so well and I found the Rubbermaid method and liked it better.these questions may seem stupid to some but please remember that I'm new to this site and new to cosplay.thanks once agin and if anyone that can help me that would be great.

Thank you guys so much,

if your new to cosplay and want an iron man suit, unless you have months to make it use foam and follow someones templates...
may i ask which pep for foam you used? if you tried an iron man helmet off the bat its gonna end up looking like crap...
i made a full iron man suit using templates, im not done, but its orders of magnitude better than my scratch built stuff...

edit :yay 100 posts!

If you haven't downloaded the pepakura viewer and designer programs do so. Find a template that exists and size it using the pepakura designer print that off then free hand the changes you want to make. That would be the simplest way. That is essentially how I made my steel ironman suit. But I do suggest the card stock patterns first make a full section that way before you move on to your final product. Also be aware that just because the sizes are correct for card stock doesn't mean it will work with the plastic you want to use. Before cutting you next pieces out check the fit once again because the materials will not bend the same as the card stock and if you cut everything out then try building it might not fit together.

Heat gun (20$ at Canadian tire) and then hot glue the bended area while you hold its shape. When the hot glue cools it'll reinforce the bend.

You'll need to practice with some test pieces to find your best method. There wont be one method that works for all plastic on all parts of the suit. This will be a voyage of discovery for you, so enjoy it!

thank you guys so much for all your help.i have plenty of time to make a suit i dont have to have it done bye a sertant time or anything i want to get really good at it and some day make them for people.
