Iron man motorised faceplate electronics tutorial!!!

Ya it's hard to tell from the diagram I'm using a 3.7V Lipo battery insted of the 2 AA batteries shown, they are feeding into the 5V step up board providing power for it. also I've got 3 LEDS per eye, it only looks like I'm using 2 tho. The calculators that I was using said that I didn't have enough power to use a resistor so I thought I was good not using one. all I know it works, if you could shed some light I would love it :) and again I love this thread :)

well a +3.7v battery directly on the leds.. 'might' be ok then.. ;)

I have 'learned/been told' "always use a resistor" :)

My Mk 6 helmet is collecting dust so I need to get busy with some electronics.
I decided to go with a Picaxe board with two servos and the servos will be powered by a separate battery pack (one for the processor and one for the servos). The face plate will be controlled by a wired switch that is on my hip. The eyes are not part of this circuit and have their own power source and will come on when the face plate is closed (plus a small switch to turn them off when not in use). My first suit will have no flicker, no sound, no thrusters and I am following the rule KISS - Keep It Simple Steve (Steve being me). I have some questions regarding my setup. Since this thread is mostly Arduino would you like me to post the questions here or start a new thread to avoid confusion?

I believe someone posted about being interested or in using the picaxe in one of these posts around here.. :)

thanks for the sounds.. I'll need them for sure.. (my board plays audio as well) ;)

are these in .mp3 format? or .wav format?

thanks!

They are in wav but with the board I have I had to convert them into a .ad4 format which was a little bit of a pain but once I figured it out it was all good.

I saw someone on the boards that was using a camera and a set of striped out video goggles... hmm... I've got a set of those somewhere in a box.... Look what you guys did to me!! lol

Yeah .. Im working with TheRealStark..

on something similar now..

web cam delivery a LIVE feed..

to an HUD (flash) animation laid over the camera feed (to mimic the HUD animations..etc)

we're trying to also hook this up to the arduino in his suit (legs, arms, helmet).. and provide on screen feedback too..

its a fun project.. (all about the learning for me.. new stuff..etc)

so they 'are' in .wav format (the dropbox link?).. cool..thats what I need.. my board plays native .wav files.....

think of it as a Arduino nano.. with built in wave player.. :)

Awesome I would love to see what you guys come up with, TheRealStark looks like a smart dude and he makes some cool stuff, I just like getting my hands dirty and making it if I can :)

I ordered a tiny pinhole cam that I'm thinking might be able to hide almost invisibly on the lip line of the brow in the center of the faceplate but I'll have to play around with it to try to ensure that it is as hidden as possible. I also picked up one of these. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9168 just to add a bit more of a HUD feel to it.

I'm excited to see what you come up with though I look forward to seeing everyone's work!

Hey xl I'm trying to use picaxe got axe204 servo board and 08 proto board just have to wwork out how to use them I'm clueless lol I'll be honest not even sure I have right boards

I thought do something like this too, but its to much information for your eyes, and nobody can see it anyway from the outside the helmet.

Here is my setup for it:

1. iMito MX Dual Core Android Mini PC.
2. ION Air mouse Glove BELLCO VENTURES - Home
3. USB cam
4. Video Glasses or small lcd screen
5. Max7456 OSD
6. Microphone and Speaker
7. Battery and some wires
8. Andriod App (Iron HUD) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.as.ironhud&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hcy5pcm9uaHVkIl0.

Here a picture of my iMito, it fits easily into the helmet. It runs on 5v, got 2 USB, HDMI, WIFI, Bluetooth and so on.

You can even hook it up to your phone and surf the internet in your Helmet!

@ drakobus -
I have zero experience with PIC/PICAXE stuff.. (sorry)

For the HUD stuff were attempting...somewhat similar..

was (at first) going to use a ODroidX board.. but I think we are going to try a pcDuino instead..

the screen is some VR reality goggles that have been mod'd to remove the screens..

really only need a web cam. display and a brain...

lots of other steps to make it work as a 'real' HUD with feedback from the Arduino boards(s) in the suit....etc..etc..

hopefully it'll be alot of fun too!

pew! this is my video of my ironman helmet :) ironman helmet test - YouTube
i make the electronics that can fit inside with the battery.. because my electronics for the full suit is in the chest but i want to wear only the helmet :lol. then if i want to used the full costume i will put the usb connector the remove the electronics in the helemet :D

hey guys got my servo board and cables riged it all up last night servos run great and leds just need to fit a reed switch and edit code and it should all work well im using picaxe axe024 board 2 leds, 2 servos and reed switch all one one board its all very neat and compact looks great will post a picture later on today

Hey guys.

First of all i really Love this thread and only registered because of this One.

I Wonder if i Push the Button to activate the System and then Push the Button a Second Time to Open the faceplate will it be Opened Till i Push the Button for the third Time? And when the faceplate is Open and i want to Walk around with it like that will the System be on for the Wohle Time?

it will be on until you cut power to it...

the button(s) will work however you want them to... you push button, it goes up, stays...

you push button again..it goes down, stays.
