Iron Man MkIII suit animatronics

Very nice job man. Thanks for sharing this,i think i'll try it to my helmet.thanks again, keep the great job!!!!!!!!!

A fan would be better but we're already pretty tight on space. Thin non conductive foam sheet would work but you don't want to seal it and end up trapping any moisture.
The foam might be necessary just for comfort. I can imagine how wearing that for a few hours would start to feel like you're trapped in an iron maiden. :wacko

i've been really happy/ amazed to see the work you and greg have been throwing into this thing ...just kind of wondering how big the tutorial is actually gonna be ....i know it will not be for noobz

This thread is pure gold! :thumbsup I'm dreaming that my suit can look half a good as that!

Honus - where do you purchase most of your material, like servos and stuff like that?

my sources are digikey, hobbyking and dx.com for now, not sure if I'm missing out on really great eStores..

Thanks! I'll updating this thread soon...

I get most of my electronics from Sparkfun and Adafruit but I do use Digikey from time to time when I need more bulk items like resistors, capacitors, etc. Both Adafruit and Sparkfun are excellent companies. Sparkfun is also about fifteen minutes from my house, which is really nice. :)

I get my servos from Servocity. They're a great company to deal with and they sell a lot more than just servos. I primarily use Hitec servos.

Looking foward to messing around with my suit tomorrow. Big ups to Honus the animatronic master.

Words fail me.
I have read this entire thread start to finish and I am simply amazed!
Being a complete n00b, all I can say is now I am totally obsessed.
Its a good thing I am a single guy with lots of time on my hands, looks like I've found a use for all that idle time! I guess I better apologize to my girlfriend upfront, she may not see much of me unless she comes to visit me in my shop!

Time to get on this project full force, thanks for the inspiration Honus!

Looking forward to the full tutorial. Now that the project is complete, what do you see that will be changed or simplified on future builds?
Do you think you would offer kits, parts lists or even 3D files (for hing and custom parts set ups)?

Knowing what I know now of course there are a few things I would change. I would probably build a single control board for the back that would clean up the wiring a lot. I don't think there will ever be any kits as it's not really practical- no two suits are the same so things like hinges and hardware will probably have to be custom built for each suit. There aren't any 3d files as everything was made by hand. There will be a complete parts list in the tutorial and you can view a parts list on the Hack A Day project page.
