Iron Man MkIII suit animatronics

Honus, way to go!!! I think I've watched this video 10 times!!! You reached a milestone in the build that we will always remember. You got this pita to move!!! From pen and paper design, to designing parts, building those parts (and making it all fit inside the helmet), bulilding the controler and all that code you had to write and rewrite you never gave up. You did it!!!

That thing opens and closes like a bear trap!! you trying to take someones nose off???

one concern i have, it sounds like the servos are still trying to run against their stops in the open position. am i just hearing some other background noise, or is that the servos making the humming? If thats the case, it seems like you could fix that in the code pretty easily.

Don't worry- there's a ton of room between the faceplate and your nose. :lol

This was my first test so there are still some adjustments to be made regarding servo movement. Even though the code is within the servos' range of travel I also suspect they are against the stops at full open so I'll adjust that. Digital servos definitely do emit a high pitched humming noise compared to analog servos due to the high frequency of pulses being sent to the motor.

Helagak, dude I'm not going to put my face in a bear trap!!!!

I forgot- as far as any forthcoming kits, etc. are concerned I'll be doing a full tutorial when I'm finished with this and have everything dialed in perfect. All of the code will be posted along with a complete parts list. I'm going to be working on designing some new boards after this project is done and those will be for sale. The tutorial will probably be up by Halloween since that is our completion date and any new boards will be after that. No idea on pricing at this time...

I'll have a chart posted soon that shows how all the suit systems are linked regarding control inputs, etc.

The speed doesn't have anything to do with the code- it has to do with leverage ratios and servo strength.

Ah okay, I just know how to solder new stuff on and replace wires :behave

Coding and servos and stuff isn't something I've learned. :$

That's awesome, I'd love to try and make this entirely myself, but I might have to buy a board. :)

Thrilled to hear that!

I have one of Finheads helmets in the mail right now and I really want to make a similar setup, a good tutorial would be a true lifesaver.

Thanks, it's just the programing that worries me cause most code I've ever written is html and a few command prompt things for my computer.:thumbsup

I'll give you the code and show you how to modify it since every IM suit is a bit different. That way you can make whatever changes you need. :)

That's awesome. Thanks! I can't wait to get started on mine, I'm still finishing up trimming it, then I'm going to get the ball joints and make the chin hinge, then I just have to figure out if I want to assemble it before or after painting it, and I have to decide if I want to get it painted Mrk III style or Mrk II style.

Thrilled to see you got it working, and on video! I'm going to have to watch real closely now for updates, and work on cleaning up my helmet.

Great Work!

What a gentleman you are sir, Thanks for being so open on this,I am sure most of us will benefit from it, I must confess it does look a little daunting but i can't wait to have a go at it.
