Strange, the inner forearm is priced higher than I think it would be. The full spine is only $68 as one piece but the inner forearm is showing at $100 and isn't that detailed a piece. Is it due to it's thickness, maybe?

Yes, I find that the thickness of the model has a LOT to do with the cost. If I can thin it or hollow it out the price drops significantly! I thinned the forearm piece down while trying to keep the cylinder inside for the outer forearm to rotate on. I will look at it again and see if I can trim anymore as the price does seem kinda high. stay tuned.

This is awesome - I'm so glad that you're making these parts, kenlandrum, and they're all exceptional quality. I really hope that you continue to make the rest of the suit, I can't believe how cool it is for this community to have access to this suit, and (probably in the future) all of it buyable from Shapeways.

I'll be printing out the hands on my 3D printer at home in the coming weeks, and from there I'll probably print out the helmet that you're currently making. I'll be sure to post pictures of the prints when they're finished!

Thanks again, kenlandrum.

Glad to see everyone using them. Thanks.

I was able to remove ALL the inside geo and get it from $184.74 to $58.06. MUCH better!

ALSO-
Elbow was $63.95... now it's $14.77

14.77 ?!! i think your model is either too small or not thick enough !!
my mk VII elbow has the minimum strenght thckness so it can be sent(2mm thick) without breaking and it costs 36.36 $

Size is right on, but you are correct, the thickness is only 1.27mm. My idea was to print as thin as possible and rondo or glass the back afterward to strengthen since all the detailed work was done. Are you saying they can't print less than 2mm??

Also: just did a test on a 2mm elbow. $27.25 as opposed to the $14.77 version that is 1.27mm thick.... dang, thickness =can save some $$$ ----- Shapeways says min thickness of 1mm, but 1mm is too thin for larger areas... wonder if 1.27 will work?

Exactly !
i mm or so willl cause the piece to warp or break when it comes to the shipping phase ..
but NEVER strenghten an 3d printed piece with fiberglass or resin... the polyester resin will warp the piece as well because of the heat !
what finhead suggest me is to slushcast the piece with urethane resin !

Excelelnt! Great suggestion. Now to determine the minimum thickness we can get away with.

What about strengthening the parts with something like plasti-dip? I've never used it, but I've been wanting to.

i dont think it would strenghten it .. plastidip is liquid rubber so it wont avoid the part from warping
the best option is clearly urethane resin!

ah, memories of the fist movie. I can just hear that music "dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun, DUN DUN!" sorry nerd moment

how do you suppose the elbow and knee joints function? I want to make some legit ones that look and operate how they're supposed to.

anyone have a link or a pictures of blue prints?

Go to shapeways and do a search for "kenlandrum" Some are having a tough time printing a few of the models. I am back to being super busy here at work, so if any one wants to download the models to tweak for printing, by all means have at it.

Awesome work! Can you make these downloadable? I would be thrilled :)
I will make sure they are all available for download.
Let me know if I miss any.

Hey awesome work man!
I've been working on my own models and printed all the fingers already.

I'm looking to print the gauntlet/forearm next. the Obj file you have is a large assembly and i am unable to separate any of the parts from each other, do you think you could send me or upload the individual part files as an stl or obj? step would be ideal but i'm not picky.
Thanks!
