Hey that is very clean man. It looks like it will fit you really well and won't be too bulky. Are you able to move around pretty well in it? Can you provide a shot of you wearing it if possible?

I used thicker foam, and while my suit fits me well, it does restrict movement somewhat.

At the moment nobody else is home to take the picture, and I don't have a mirror in a good spot. EDIT: JK, decided it was worth it to go get the mirror. Pics below.

The key to being able to move well is fitting. If it fits right, joints will be in the right places and there won't be un-needed bulk. I cut out like 2 inches from both the right and left side of the chest/back piece, and will likely trim down the abs a smidgen so they fit under the back better. The forearms I made narrower at the top because they seemed too big and bulky. The tests I've done so far show that this suit is far more mobile than the Mark 4 I'm wearing in my profile picture.

The thighs and biceps are both kinda falling down my limbs. Once the joints are added in to them, this will stop happening. The chest looks deformed because it's thin foam and the chest isn't connected to the back on the sides. That'll happen at some point.

I can put on the whole suit by myself, but cannot close one latch on the chest piece. I have it attach on my left side and cannot get to it completely.

The suit you are building looks very good and I agree from the photos it appears to not add much more than a thick sweatshirt would.

Where did you get the foam files for your suit?

Changed my mind, added photos.

I get the foam from Hobby Lobby.

No sorry I mean the .pdo files. Your suit looks really good and I will definitely use thinner foam on my next Iron Man build. I would really like to try this one out. I really enjoy building the legs and these look fun. The whole suit does actually. I will use your helmet as a guide whenever I build the mark VIII template. What thickness is your foam? I have found 6mm is good for helmets and I'm pretty sure it won't cave or twist.

nice thanks for the info. I will check those out when the time comes.

Here's some shots of the helmet cast. It's since been cleaned up, and I'm working on the hinges. They won't be super smooth, just enough to open and close it while I'm wearing it.

And here's all the parts, with 3 layers of glue, a layer of Plasti-Dip, and a layer of silver. Now comes masking...

That helmet isn't the casting, it's the foam helmet I molded. I'll paint the resin one once I've got the mechanics worked out.

Re: Iron Man 3, Mk42 foam build. Whole Suit Complete, post #33

I still need to add another non-paper layer to the chest light. I haven't added the finger plates, and I don't know if I will. It's already hard enough to do things with my hands, those might make it too tough. We'll see.

Man. That is some fabulous work. Great job! How durable is a suit like this? Will you be able to get several wearings out of it? It seems like the foam will bend and crack the paint. Fascinated by this whole pep/foam process....

Any pictures of the process you used to cast your helmet?
